Making an impact on people’s lives is a career dream for many. But at these Seattle tech companies, it’s an everyday reality. Helping clients affordably buy their first house or small businesses more effectively connect with online shoppers might seem like hefty evolutions, but like any long-term goal, it’s the gradual steps that make the greatest difference.

That said, employees at the following organizations aren’t just looking out for their customer base — internal support and collaboration are just as important.

Below, we caught up with three local companies — all currently hiring — where team collaboration brings something new to the table every day. Devashish Meena
Principal Engineer • Esper

Esper’s cloud-based platform allows customers to keep track of the connected Android devices they operate and helps them provide remote support. It also has scalable APIs and SDKs so its customers can develop their software, test it out and then deploy it across all of their devices.

Culture is key: “I decided to join Esper based on two key factors: the culture and the type of problems I'd be working on,” Meena said. “Having worked for five startups before joining Esper, I've realized that in small, fast-moving companies, culture is the most important aspect to consider, followed closely by the domain in which the company is operating. With Esper, I was sure I'd be working with domain experts and industry leaders who believe in investing in the growth of their employees as the company moves forward. They enable the team to fearlessly explore new ideas, take complete ownership and learn from mistakes. The problem space excited me because of its impact, diversity and growth potential, which requires solving complex, challenging technical problems for a diverse set of customers.”

Shaping the future industry: “Esper is changing the way enterprises think about mobile device management by building a secure, scalable and stable platform from the ground up. Personally, I love the fact that my contribution enables our customers to move fast, save costs and deliver more secure software to their end users. The fact that our customers span a wide range of industries including healthcare, fitness, education and retail makes the contributions even more rewarding.”

 

Stephen Wald
Director of Product • Flyhomes

Flyhomes operates as an end-to-end real estate brokerage firm that uses machine learning and financial tools to make purchasing a home more affordable for the average buyer. 

A people-first focus: “I’ve been at Flyhomes for three years — forever in startup time,” Wald said. “The incredible opportunities for growth and our people-first culture keep me here. Every day, we’re focused on building the world's best homebuying experience. We innovate constantly. Each day is different, challenging and exciting. I might be interviewing customers, focusing on design and product reviews, defining processes, diving into our databases, or building our reporting.

I’ve grown from a senior product manager to director of product, helping lead our product organization. With our recent Series C funding, we’re aiming to double the team size this year. The people who join us will have a big opportunity to dig in and grow.

Our leadership cares deeply about our team. This has especially shined over the past year. When the Black Lives Matter movement took center stage, we held a town hall where teammates could speak openly. Flyhomes followed up with a plan to take action by investing in underserved communities and created our first donation matching program. We’ve since committed funds to Asian American Pacific Islander organizations and to help fight the pandemic in India, where we have a large group of teammates.”

Solving problems through simplification: “Flyhomes is working in a massive problem area that touches millions of people. How can we make the homebuying experience awesome? The solutions span people, processes, tech, tools, policy and regulation. 

As a product manager, I’m in the unique position to sit between our customers, our business and our engineering team, all with an eye toward our future. We have a business model that works and a dedicated, passionate, smart team. Because of what the team is building, buying homes will be simpler and less risky. We’re rethinking every aspect from the first time a customer meets us all the way through completing a home purchase and beyond.

When we apply technology to the set of problems our customers face, we can solve real problems. The tools we’re creating will guide a customer through the entire journey, bringing a level of transparency to the industry that has not been seen before. From how you discover homes to how you imagine living in them to how you communicate with your agent and the process of making an offer, we’re working to improve it all.”

 

Nadia Flushe
Senior Manager, Marketing • Ideoclick

Ideoclick helps businesses that sell on Amazon achieve results via an e-commerce optimization platform. The software delivers comprehensive cloud-based expertise and insight based on reporting, analytics and content optimization. 

Strong internal support: “I've been with Ideoclick for more than four years now,” Flushe said. “I stay and continue to believe in this company because of the amazing people I get to work with, the heartwarming and friendly environment, and the wealth of knowledge that is shared so openly with everyone.
