Semiconductors have been in short supply for over a year now and it’s affecting everything from computer manufacturing to automotive production. According to one company, the shortage is set to last until 2024. With the end to the shortage still a ways away manufacturers are racing to produce as many semiconductors as possible. Seattle-based Tignis helps those manufacturers with its AI manufacturing productivity software and it recently secured new funding.

Tignis, a software startup that uses AI to control semiconductor manufacturing, announced on Thursday that it secured $7.2 million in a Series A round led by Clear Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based VC firm. The startup’s total venture funding raised now stands at $8.5 million, according to Crunchbase.

According to the Tignis, the new capital will be used to expand its sales team and continue expanding the company.

“This funding will accelerate Tignis on its journey of advancing physics-driven AI process control as an enabler of the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing,” Jon Herlocker, CEO of Tignis, said in a statement. “AI process control will accelerate semiconductor process development, improve efficiency and quality and enable manufacturing technologies that previously were too complex to model, resulting in production of smaller and more complex chips, faster time to market and improved yield while reducing the cost of operations.”

“In addition, the advancement of AI process control technology in semiconductor manufacturing that Tignis is undertaking is of particular importance to the U.S. market, to re-establish competitiveness and leadership in this industry,” Herlocker went on to say.

Tignis’ AI software manufacturing solutions help automate production by creating platforms that use AI to learn the manufacturing process of semiconductors. It also monitors the process to ensure that errors are not made and thus avoids faulty products. According to the company, its products require very little coding and are used by several of the top semiconductor manufacturers
