The human desire to seek out connection isn’t limited to other people; it extends to the animal kingdom as well. As people sought companionship over the course of the pandemic, pet adoption rates soared and furry family members joined households across the nation. Looking to help millions of pet owners take care of their four-legged friends, Felix&Fido launched its vet services company with a $4 million pre-seed round on Thursday.

Backed by lead investor PSL Ventures, Felix&Fido operates a tech-enabled solution for pet healthcare. Its goal is to modernize how veterinary care is delivered, according to the company, especially in the wake of today’s veterinarian shortage. Additionally, Felix&Fido wants to help move the veterinary industry away from its outdated service delivery model, which depends on antiquated tech and maintaining paper records, the company said in a statement.

Felix&Fido developed a care model that leverages in-clinic, telehealth and at-home care to provide pet owners with continuous service.

Its new funding will go toward launching its membership-based pet care plans. Felix&Fido provides various subscription options for members, and each plan covers a range of services. Some of the company’s subscription offerings include unlimited appointments with no fees, free pet vaccines and 24/7 access to telemedicine resources.

Felix&Fido also offers members home visits from a veterinary nurse supported by its mobile nurse unit. This nurse group currently services Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Renton and Sammamish, Felix&Fido said in the statement.

“The team at Felix&Fido started this company with a clear end goal in mind: to reimagine the veterinary care experience and change the status quo,” Gavin Woody, CEO and co-founder of Felix&Fido, said in a statement. “This funding allows us to bring our veterinary service model to life and provide exceptional care to pets and pet parents. The veterinary services industry is ripe for disruption, and we’re confident that our approach to pet care will make a valuable difference for pets and providers, all without compromise.”

As for its in-clinic offerings, Felix&Fido’s first physical location has yet to open. The company plans to raise a fresh round of funding ahead of opening its first clinic in Issaquah this May. It also expects to roll out additional clinic hubs later this year, according to the statement.

The growing company is currently hiring a couple of Seattle-based positions, including a veterinary assistant and a vet technician.
