At Intercept Games, it’s not a question of whether you’ll be able to go on a much-needed vacation — it’s a matter of deciding how many vacations you’d like to take.

For employees at the Seattle-based video game development studio, time spent away from one’s desk is just as important as the time spent getting work done. That’s why team members are provided with both generous PTO as well as companywide days off, allowing them ample time to recharge.

The company also aims to cultivate an office culture that promotes interpersonal connection and a sense of inclusion. While diverse hiring practices and employee resource groups enable team members to feel like they belong, happy hours and company-sponsored outings allow them to connect with their colleagues on a personal level.

Intercept Games’ latest project, Kerbal Space Program 2, combines its passion for space, simulation, strategy and gaming. This project came to fruition thanks to Intercept Games’ culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

In an interview with Built In Seattle last year, Software Engineering Lead John Roper described what it’s like to work on the company’s engineering team, summing up the experience in three words: “efficient, collaborative and self-directed.”

“In action, this looks like a team where each member has a full knowledge of the scope and direction of the product; a passion for communicating about the things they have made; and a deep respect for the work of other team members,” Roper said. “Combined with an overall team culture of continuous learning, this allows us to create great games without getting bogged down in the burdensome aspects of the software development process.”

To ensure team members are set up to thrive, the company offers a diverse range of benefits and perks that support their personal health and family-related needs, as well as financial wellness and professional growth. Some of the company’s most noteworthy perks include adoption assistance, fertility benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, a fitness stipend, mental health benefits and a continuing education stipend.

As Intercept Games builds out its product design and engineering teams, the company is searching for talented individuals to take its gaming technology to the next level while receiving the support they need to prosper.
