What You'll Be Doing as a Business Development Manager for our Utilities Products
Clean Power Research seeks a highly motivated, self-driven Business Development Manager to explore and develop new opportunities for the company with a particular focus on expanding our Utilities business through new markets, partnerships, and channels.
The Business Development Manager is responsible for exploring market opportunities for our software-as-a-service PowerClerk®, WattPlan®, and SolarAnywhere® product families. You will identify markets where our existing products are applicable as well as suggest new markets that we should explore, backing up recommendations with data and thorough quantitative and contextual analysis. The Business Development Manager will also actively identify, engage, and onboard potential partners that will help drive our utility opportunities.
On a day-to-day basis, you will track global industry trends, understand the competition, attend and present at key conferences and events worldwide and meet with customers, partners, analysts and experts to expand the reach of our sales and product management teams. With certain opportunities and partnerships, the Business Development Manager will develop and execute new business models, including working with product management and sales on pricing and licensing models. You'll also be responsible for prioritizing partnerships as well as the strategies and go-to-market plans to make these partnerships successful.
Of course, the Business Development Manager is part of the larger sales organization within a lean, well-functioning company. This person must be able to efficiently work across the rest of the sales, product management, customer success and marketing organization.
The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of the global utilities markets we compete in, seed that knowledge internally, and use it to help the company succeed. We are looking for an exceptional, creative individual with leadership capabilities, a data-driven mindset and the ability to think on their feet.
Travel requirement: 25%. This is a primarily in-office position in our Bellevue office with some flexibility for remote work each week.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize and own market data on customers, competitors, pricing, regulation, opportunities, channels and partners
  • Work with sales, delivery, marketing and product management teams to identify, prioritize, engage, onboard, and manage software, channel, and implementation partners
  • Develop and execute top-of-funnel sales strategies to grow the sales pipeline for our sales team.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and product management teams to create go-to-market strategy and plans for new markets including new geographies and market segments
  • Develop deep understanding of our products and markets
  • Anticipate new markets for CPR products and services, and develop related pilot opportunities and funding sources
  • Develop and deliver high quality technical and business process content to maintain CPR thought leadership position in areas such as transportation and building electrification, interconnection and incentive programs, energy efficiency, service requests, customer engagement, and other emerging areas
  • Develop and nurture industry relationships to better position CPR subject matter expertise around our products and services


Who You Are

  • Minimum of BA/BS degree; MBA or advanced degree in closely related field preferred
  • 3+ years in business development, partner management or related role, preferably with software-as-a-service solutions and/or direct utility experience
  • Familiarity with SaaS software, channel, and implementation partnership business models and contracts
  • International market-entry and expansion-strategy experience beneficial
  • Familiarity with utility vendor market
  • Passion for the energy transformation essential; energy industry experience required
  • Domain experience in utility processes for renewable energy, transportation and building electrification, energy efficiency or related projects, with subject matter expert (SME) level in one or more areas preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Comfortable presenting in front of internal and external groups, including executive audiences
  • Superior organizational skills; ability to prioritize, track and juggle many tasks.


Pay Range and Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000 annual depending on experience

The Bellevue office is located near highways 405 & 520, hike & bike trails, and what will be the new light rail station. There are lots of great places to eat within walking distance and we offer free garage parking with EV charging stations as well.
