As Head of Virtual First-EPD, you are energized by leading a large, complex but impactful company-wide change initiative. This will impact how work gets done at Dropbox and by the world as we look to be at the forefront of the emerging future of work movement. You are a talented speaker and writer who can set a cohesive and compelling strategy, but also have the chops to get your hands dirty and bring it to life by leading a large cross-functional team in day-to-day program operations. You believe that a new way of working is upon us and are passionate about helping individuals and teams shift to that future of work. You thrive working in a matrix team setup and are able to galvanize support across a diverse set of stakeholders and bring people together irrespective of reporting lines.     

You have had experience and exposure to a customer centric design process and deeply believe in the power of focusing on positively impacting individuals in both their personal and work lives. We need to make work human. You can see the uncertainties that slow teams down and help surface questions thoughtfully people didn’t even know they had.

In this role, you will develop tools and strategies that consistently position Dropbox as a company at the forefront of the emerging future of work movement. You will help us achieve our mission, to design an enlightened way of working, starting with ourselves and then sharing that with the world. You will be the ultimate owner and driver for Virtual First technology and tools, as well as the adoption of our Virtual First toolkit. You will also be responsible for helping us reimagine how we build products in a Virtual First world. Join us in building the "new Dropbox"!

Responsibilities

  • Execution; on planned 2021 initiatives that are already in-flight as part of the Virtual First program
  • Ownership; of the Virtual First program including reimagining how we build products in a VF environment, which tools & technology we should adopt (including security and privacy), as well as driving company adoption for our Virtual Fist Toolkit
  • Evangelize; become a figurehead for the VF program at Dropbox internally and externally as we become a leader in how to work effectively in remote/distributed/Virtual First making Dropbox an even more desirable place to work
  • Strategy; in close partnership with our Head of VF (People & Culture), and other key cross-functional partners (e.g.L&OD), take lessons from our first ~12 months of VF and refresh the VF strategy to create a holistic vision for 2022 and beyond. Gain buy-in with Staff and Staff+1 stakeholders to ensure successful launch and adoption.
  • Impact; Joint accountability with the Head of Virtual First (People & Culture),  to ensure that the Virtual First strategy is implemented in accordance with our company values, DEI commitments and is meeting planned goals to ensure DBXers are effective in getting their work done.
  • Key partners; New Frontiers (Product strategy), ITS (VF technology & tools), External comms (Thought leadership on VF toolkit, tech, tools), Security & Privacy teams, Design & L&OD (Toolkit), Sales & business development (how our practices support us building great products for a distributed/remote work environment)

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years experience in leading/directly managing distributed teams in a global, remote environment  
  • Experience building products in a remote or distributed team environment.  
  • Exceptional project management skills; highly organized, detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and grow individual leaders and managers
  • Strong mastery of strategy, vision setting, and implementation (product management experience a plus!) 
  • Deep organization and execution capabilities, especially in areas of influence and collaboration with multiple stakeholder groups
  • Experience navigating or leading change management on a large scale
  • Excellent written/verbal communication - an engaging storyteller
  • Experience in design thinking methodologies to lead teams toward customer centered outcomes

Additional Perks + Benefits

In order to be successful in our Virtual First environment we needed to make changes that would allow employees to have more control over both where and how they work. Therefore, we embrace “non-linear workdays” with defined core collaboration hours that overlap across time zones. Beyond that, we encourage employees to design their own schedules to balance collaboration with needs for individual focus. We’ve also moved from “all day syncs” to an “async by default” culture, reserving meetings for discussion, debate, and decision-making, and handling all other work in our deep focus hours.
