Senior Manager, Quantum Computing Systems

The salary range for this position is $175,954 - $230,369.
We are looking for a Sr. Manager of Quantum Computing Systems. As a Sr. Manager on the System Integration team in our new Seattle facility, you’ll be part of the cross-functional leadership team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you’ll lead the system commissioning and performance characterization of IonQ’s engineering prototypes of high-performance trapped-ion quantum computers.
This role involves direct supervision of a newly formed, small team of experimental physicists in our Seattle site as well as close collaboration with our core system integration team in College Park, MD.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow a small team of physicists working on quantum computing system integration
- Collaborate with other subsystem leads across the organization in the requirements definition, testing, and integration of critical subsystems of trapped-ion quantum computers
- Manage the team of physicists that takes assembled hardware from the initial stages of ion trapping to coherent gate operations to a full performance characterization
- Continually drive process and subsystem improvements with the goal of improving performance of trapped-ion quantum computing systems

- PhD in experimental atomic physics
- Demonstrated experience innovating in the field of trapped ions
- 12+ years of relevant post-PhD experience
- Strong record of publications, patents, or product demonstrations demonstrating high impact in the field
- 5+ years of direct personnel management or related project / task leadership

Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located in Washington DC, Seattle, Washington or the Toronto, Canada area. The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
