With the effects of daylight savings time in full swing, trying to stifle the onset of seasonal blues might feel like a challenge — but finding a new role in Seattle’s booming tech scene shouldn’t have to be. Throughout the emerald innovator’s bustling streets, teams are seeking new talent and new ways to smash their rapidly approaching 2023 goals.

That’s why Built In Seattle took a closer look at one company standing out this month to showcase who they are, what’s catching the industry’s attention and how the supportive company culture keeps employees uplifted even when the sun starts setting at 4 p.m.

With Q4 already well underway, teams at online jewelry platform Blue Nile are ambitiously ramping up to make the new year even more successful than the last, thanks to going public and discovering exciting new funding opportunities.

What they do: Blue Nile is an online retailer of diamonds, wedding rings and fine jewelry. On the site, users are able to search thousands of unique rings, jewelry and diamonds in various shapes, styles and sizes, all of which can be delivered directly to your door. The company also offers educational materials and online tools that place consumers in control of the jewelry shopping process.

In the news: In August, Signet Jewelers announced its acquisition of Blue Nile for $360 million. According to Signet, the exciting move should help boost the company’s bridal offerings and digital capabilities.

Building a supportive culture: “We align our benefits to support a people-first culture,” Director of Human Resources Kevin Blum previously told Built In. “We cover 100 percent of our employees’ health coverage and subsidize a majority of costs for their families. In today’s environment specifically, we find that supporting family coverage can be a differentiator in benefit plans. We also provide a stipend to support employees in where they choose to work, whether they’re commuting or have home office expenses.”

Embracing DEI: Blue Nile has an employee-led diversity, equity and inclusion advisory council committed to improving inclusion, as well as a dedicated diversity manifesto and a mean gender pay gap below 10 percent.
