Seattle is getting another coding school, with the Flatiron School announcing that it will open its first West Coast bootcamp in Seattle early next year. The organization will start running its 15-week courses out of a downtown WeWork in January 2019.

Flatiron School CEO and co-founder Adam Enbar said he was thrilled to join the city’s “influential and vibrant tech community.”

“There are so many great companies in need of top tech talent in the Puget Sound region and Flatiron School wants to ensure that local Seattleites have the resources, training and support they need to fill those jobs,” he said in a statement.

Enbar and Chief Product Officer Avi Flombaum founded Flatiron School in New York City 2012. It offers immersive data science and software engineering bootcamps, along with online courses and free introductory lessons on front-end development, data science and different coding languages. Seattle will be the sixth foray outside of New York for the company, which was acquired by WeWork in 2017.

The school will start its inaugural classes in data science and software engineering in January next year, with more starting in March, April, July and August.

Flatiron School joins a long list of organizations looking to plug the skills gap in Puget Sound’s tech industry. Seattleites looking to upskill for a career in tech can choose from a growing range of apprenticeships, job placements and coding courses, and a wide variety of scholarships. According to Course Report, which publishes an annual report on the coding bootcamp industry, over 20,000 students will graduate from coding bootcamps this year in North America. That’s nine times more than in 2012, when the industry first emerged. Flatiron School has graduated over 2,000 students since its founding.

Flatiron School said it’s the only coding bootcamp in Seattle that offers a money-back guarantee for students who fulfill its career services commitment. Furthermore, the organization has also provided $10 million in scholarships to date in an attempt to boost diversity in the tech workforce.

The school is now accepting applications for scholarships designed for women and members of disadvantaged communities.
