What's It Like to Work at Capco?
Capco Employee Perspectives
What is your role, and what attracted you to Capco? Describe the moment when you knew you’d found the right fit.
I am the tech lead for the AI dev team. I decided to join Capco because of the quality of people I encountered during the hiring process who seemed to be very open-minded about talented people with a non-traditional tech background. I knew it was a good fit for me on my very first project — in truth, even during my orientation sessions. The scrum master didn’t care that I was self-taught or a junior. He assessed my work ethic and what I was capable of before adjusting my responsibilities accordingly.
What’s your favorite part about working at Capco?
As long as I demonstrate effort and deliver high-quality work, I have a lot of flexibility. When presented with a problem, I have very wide latitude and freedom for how I come to the solution. If I present a viable idea, I am not only free to chase it but am actively encouraged to do so. The team we have built around AI is a highlight. We regularly get together in the office. We have fun, joke with each other and solve problems together. There’s a strong startup feel to how we work.
When it comes to opportunities for growth, it is all about you. Capco doesn’t care about years or experience — they care about the specific talents that you have and what level of effort you put in. I can attest to this personally. A little over three years ago, I began teaching myself how to code. A year into that, Capco gave me an opportunity. My first project, understandably, was a junior quality assurance role. Soon, I was presenting ideas about AI, solutions to pressing problems and insights on team ethics in addition to being involved in a whole lot of problem-solving. Capco gave me recognition and credit every step of the way and put me out front, and today, I am an AI lead after only two years into the industry.
What advice would you give to job seekers looking to join your growing team?
As cliché as it sounds, it starts with having a good attitude. Show curiosity, ask questions and demonstrate flexibility and willingness to take on new tasks and roles. Be honest about where you have knowledge gaps. Finally, find ways to showcase your skills rather than just talk about them.
