Provides outpatient psychiatric care, seeing 4–12 patients daily. Responsibilities include collecting medical histories, diagnosing mental health conditions, explaining treatments, prescribing medication and therapy, monitoring progress, and adjusting care plans. The psychiatrist must hold an applicable state medical license, be open to varied treatment approaches, and treat children. Board certification is preferred. Provides remote psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, psychotherapy, follow-up care, and treatment-plan adjustments for patients with mental health disorders. The PMHNP collaborates with psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications including controlled substances, documents patient care, and participates in multidisciplinary meetings.
