Tl;dr

We’re about to grow our team by A LOT, and it’s time we bring in someone to manage our recruiting and hiring work. We’re pretty proud of our hiring process so far, but we need your help in improving it to scale. Help us grow Nori from a team of 16 to 25 and beyond.

 About Nori

We’re a team of believers. We believe that humanity can stop and even reverse climate change by removing over 1 trillion tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. How do we get people to remove that much carbon at scale? Pay them! Nori’s marketplace is the infrastructure that creates the financial incentive for people and companies to remove massive amounts of CO2 from the air.

Nori is a venture-backed and highly values-oriented company. Our focus is on people and planet. We’re composed of a diverse set of people with complementary skillsets, all unified in the mission of restoring the world’s atmospheric carbon balance back to 300ppm.

We strongly suggest that you read in detail about our company values and mission at https://nori.com/careers.

 About the role

You’ll be our new Talent Acquisition Manager. We’ve been really intentional with how we take care of Norinauts and our culture. It’s time to grow the team, and we need your help to do that. You’ll lead our entire hiring process, from writing job descriptions, to meeting with candidates, to closing on offers. We use Greenhouse for our ATS, fy.

 Who You’ll Work With

You’ll work most closely with the leadership team (LT) at Nori, which consists of the team leads of each of the below teams plus the CEO. But beyond that, you’ll want to get to know everyone at Nori (it’s only 20 people so this is still doable!) to understand what makes our culture tick.

Each of these teams work a little bit differently, but they work hand in hand with each other to create an inventory of verified carbon removals that can be sold through our marketplace.

The Product Team

The Product Team is responsible for the Nori marketplace, supply-side enrollment app, marketing website, and any of the technical/software aspects of Nori’s work. The Product team works with the other teams—Supply, Sales, and Communications—to support business development needs. They’re building everything relevant, from crypto wallet integration, to agricultural data capture.

The Supply & Methodology Teams

The Supply team works with Nori Suppliers: anyone who can verifiably remove and store CO2 from the atmosphere. The Methodology team works on developing the requirements for how projects are enrolled (see current methodology). Both teams report to the Head of Supply and Methodology. As Nori’s current focus is on our Croplands Methodology, the Supply team is working with farmers as well as the partners and companies around them to enroll croplands into the Nori market.

The Demand Team

The Demand team sells carbon. Specifically they sell NRTs to B2B customers as well as through partnerships with other companies, like NFT marketplaces and carbon footprint companies. They stay in tight communication with the Supply team about how much inventory they will have to work with. And they partner with the Comms team around how to get marketing messaging out, and creating new content for presenting to potential customers and partners.

The Communications and Marketing Team

The Comms and Marketing team produces and hosts our two podcasts, Reversing Climate Change and Carbon Removal Newsroom, as well as manages all our marketing and social media channels.

Five Key Aspects of the Role

  • Be extremely curious. There’s a lot going on here at Nori! Agriculture, crypto, fintech, podcasting, NFTs, you name it. We’re all constantly learning, and it’ll be important that you’re curious to learn about all the different things our teams are working on. It takes one to know one, and we hope your curiosity rubs off on future hiring candidates.
  • Communicate and check in with teams regularly. We like to move fast here. And that means that sometimes teams are learning quickly about what their needs are as they adapt to changing conditions in the market. Imagine yourself roving around the office, sitting in on team meetings and learning exactly what it is they’re doing and what they need help with.
  • Plan ahead. We need you to take what you learn from talking with all the teams regularly, and help suggest prioritized hiring plans.
  • Build relationships. Our industries (crypto and climate) are both pretty hot right now, which means there’s a lot of competition for new talent. As we grow, there will be some roles that we don’t need yet, but will soon. It’ll be a real advantage in this position if you’re able to build relationships in advance so that when a new role does open up, you’ve got a stable of potential candidates ready to talk to.
  • Continuously improve. This is one of our core company values, and it’s just as applicable in this role. How’s our hiring process? Are we learning from the interview questions we use? How about the applications candidates fill out? What do you want to do differently? We need you to be thinking about all these questions and suggest new and innovative ways to find the right people to join Nori.

You’ll Be Responsible For…

  • Overseeing our recruiting and hiring process.
    • Working with team leads to develop hiring plans. Writing and publishing job descriptions.
    • Scheduling interviews and organizing travel logistics for candidates when necessary.
  • Growing a stable network of relationships in the tech, crypto, and climate industries.
  • Innovating new ways of attracting talent, e.g. digital marketing.

 Must-haves

  • At least 2-4 years experience as a recruiter at a startup or tech company

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Familiarity with either crypto or climate tech industries

Key outcomes and metrics

  • How long it takes to hire a role once it goes live.
  • Conversion rates from one step of the recruiting funnel to the next.

You’ll be a good culture fit here if you can...

  • Handle a steep learning curve
  • Work with abstract ideas and requirements to create something more concrete
  • Know how to measure progress meaningfully
  • Stay playful and light without taking things too seriously or personally
  • Limit work in progress and stay focused on the current goal

Key challenges in this role

We are working in the most competitive space for talent right now, and we need to hire quickly and at a high quality. Candidates will have lots of questions about Nori, our business model, and how they can make an impact here and on the planet, and it’ll be your job to sell them on it.

What’s the payoff for all this hard/fun work?

  • You’re not just working at some mobile ads startup—you’re directly helping build products to reverse climate change.
  • You get to work with experts in carbon sequestration and marketplace economics who are defining a new industry.
  • There is a steep learning curve here, and for people who get excited by that, there’s no better place to be.
  • We have a competitive benefits package including 100% of health, dental, and vision benefits for you and dependents, four weeks PTO, 12 weeks parental leave,  stock options, and NORI tokens.
  • We have a lot of fun in our office, keep a well-stocked pantry and fridge, and generally like each other’s company. Happy hours in Ballard happen regularly!

 Logistics

We are committed to in-person work in our Ballard neighborhood office in Seattle and look forward to working with you there. While we strongly prefer to work in person, for this position we will consider remote candidates. Visa sponsorship is not offered for this opportunity.

The expected salary range for this role is between $95,000 to $140,000.
