Seattle-based fusion energy startup Avalanche Energy has raised $29 million to expand its FusionWERX test facility in Richland, Washington, a center for research and development of fusion energy that began construction in April 2025.

According to Ventureburn, the funding round was led by RA Capital Management and included 8090 Industries, Overlay Capital, Congruent Ventures, Founders Fund, Lowercarbon Capital and Toyota Ventures.

Avalanche plans to use the facility to test fusion reactors, materials and components. The focus will be on smaller, modular designs that could make fusion energy more practical and adaptable, including its upcoming deuterium-tritium “Q>1” test program, which is expected to generate more energy than the system consumes.

Ventureburn reported the new investment will also help expand Avalanche’s team and operations to support its research and development efforts.
