About Shipium

Shipium builds technical infrastructure for complex supply chains.

Modern operators turn to Shipium when they want to turn their supply chain into a strategic value driver. Shipium's platform provides cloud infrastructure and leading AI capabilities that optimize costs and scale automation.

We’re building tech that connects previously fragmented systems and automates complex supply chain decisions to deliver speed and value across operations.

Founded in 2019 by supply chain technology experts from Amazon and Zulily, the company is on a mission to help every eCommerce company provide its customers a great delivery experience while simultaneously reducing their costs to fulfill orders.

About the role

Shipium is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to own the accounting function in an individual contributor capacity, reporting directly to the VP of Finance. This is not a people manager role today, but it is the most senior accounting seat in the company below the VP of Finance. You will own the close, lead audit coordination with our external auditors, and serve as the primary technical accounting resource on the team. You will work with a high degree of autonomy. The VP of Finance is your escalation path on the most sensitive or novel issues. Everything else is yours to drive.

What you'll do

  • Own the full close calendar and coordinate sequencing across all accounting workstreams, including any contractors.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors across most audit workstreams, coordinating the PBC list and tracking completion end-to-end; escalating to the VP of Finance only on the most sensitive matters.
  • Own the end-to-end revenue recognition process in a low-volume, large-contract SaaS environment with complex evidence requirements; review and sign off on contract analysis and recognition conclusions.
  • Independently research and document accounting positions on complex or non-routine transactions; draft technical memos suitable for auditor review.
  • Serve as the functional owner of the accounting tech stack on a day-to-day basis; evaluate and implement new tools and define system requirements as the company scales.
  • Lead the accounting function's AI and automation strategy; define where automation is appropriate and where human judgment is non-negotiable; set the standard for responsible AI use in the accounting function.
  • Identify policy gaps and bring proposed positions to the VP of Finance; maintain documentation at a level that supports a clean audit opinion.
  • Model ownership and accountability within the accounting function; contribute to building a culture where issues are surfaced proactively, and documentation standards are consistently high.

Qualifications

  • 6 or more years of accounting experience, with at least one full external audit cycle owned or co-owned (Big 4 or similar).
  • SaaS industry experience strongly preferred, particularly with low-volume, large-contract revenue models and ASC 606 complexity.
  • Deep working knowledge of ASC 606 and strong familiarity with ASC 842, 718, and 350-40.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in a lean environment with direct exposure to senior leadership and external auditors.
  • Experience as a functional system owner for accounting tools; ERP proficiency required.
  • Genuine curiosity about AI and automation; demonstrated experience using AI tools to improve workflow efficiency and output quality.
  • Strong written communication skills; your technical memos and audit documentation need to stand on their own.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

What Makes This Role Different

Accounting Manager roles are common at large companies where the title means managing a particular space. At Shipium, it means you own the accounting function. You will have direct access to the VP of Finance, work alongside external auditors on a real audit, and have meaningful input into how the accounting function is built as we scale. When we grow to a point where this role becomes a people manager role, you are the natural candidate to step into it.

  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
