The Editorial Manager will own the editorial vision and day-to-day operations of the content team, ensuring work is prioritized, executed efficiently, and aligned with business goals. Partnering closely with Content, SEO, and cross-functional stakeholders, this role oversees the editorial roadmap, manages writers and editors, and maintains high standards for quality, accuracy, and compliance. The Editorial Manager provides editorial leadership, clear direction, and decision-making in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and maintain the editorial roadmap, setting weekly, monthly, and quarterly publishing priorities informed by performance data, SEO insights, and AI-driven content opportunities
  • Lead and mentor staff and freelance writers, setting clear expectations and coaching teams on how to effectively use AI tools to improve research, ideation, drafting, and iteration
  • Design and scale AI-enabled editorial processes, including templates, prompts, workflows, and repeatable content systems that increase speed without sacrificing quality
  • Serve as the primary intake point for cross-vertical content requests, using prioritization frameworks and AI-assisted scoping to evaluate impact, effort, and urgency
  • Oversee end-to-end editorial production—from AI-informed briefs and outlines to human-reviewed final publication—ensuring deadlines, quality, and accuracy standards are met
  • Establish, document, and enforce ConsumerAffairs’ editorial voice, tone, and standards across all content, including guidance on appropriate and responsible AI usage
  • Review and approve content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, brand alignment, and compliance, applying human editorial judgment as the final decision-maker
  • Partner closely with SEO, Legal/Compliance, and other stakeholders to ensure content meets strategic goals, regulatory requirements, and trust standards
  • Continuously evaluate and refine editorial workflows by monitoring performance, identifying automation opportunities, and testing new AI tools or methodologies

Requirements

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Degree in English, journalism, or relevant field or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, editing, or a related editorial role.
  • Proven experience managing editorial teams and overseeing content production.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong understanding of digital media, including SEO, social media, and audience engagement strategies.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of AP style
  • Understanding of SEO best practices and keyword research 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and managing freelance writers
  • Experience analyzing SEO reports to pitch article ideas
  • Ability to recognize and understand market trends
