Job Description:

Vertex is seeking an AI Product Engineer to design, build, and deliver AI-powered enterprise web applications that create AI-native customer and internal experiences. In this role, you will help define how users interact with intelligent systems to make better decisions, work more efficiently, and scale their impact across the organization. You will own the full AI product lifecycle—from product discovery and UX/UI design to full-stack development and production deployment—turning complex business challenges into intuitive, scalable solutions. The work centers on reimagining workflows with AI, transforming how customers and internal teams operate, make decisions, and achieve business outcomes.

This is a demanding, high-visibility role focused on problems where successful execution matters. The work will require urgency, judgment, and ownership, with direct exposure to leaders across Vertex and responsibility for products expected to create measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop deep domain expertise in customer and internal workflows, operating like a forward-deployed product engineer who learns the business, users, data, constraints, and decision paths well enough to design AI products that meaningfully change how the work gets done

  • Own the endtoend lifecycle of AI products, from discovery and UX/UI design through development, deployment, and iteration

  • Design and build enterprise web applications that support multiple user personas, workflows, and permissions

  • Lead product discovery discussions to understand operational processes, user needs, and business constraints

  • Create AI-native product and UX patterns that go beyond traditional software and chat interfaces, including human-in-the-loop review flows, contextual decision support, workflow automation, confidence and escalation experiences, and interfaces for collaborating with intelligent systems

  • Build and ship productiongrade fullstack applications integrating GenAI/LLM capabilities

Required Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in AI product engineering, product-design-focused fullstack engineering, or productfocused software roles

  • Experience designing, owning and shipping endtoend, userfacing applications

  • Handson experience integrating generative AI into complex web applications

  • Demonstrated experience with product design in practice, including UX flows, UI decisions, and enterprise workflow design

  • Portfolio required: examples of AIpowered products or systems (GitHub repositories, demos, deployed applications, or case studies)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building AIpowered enterprise products such as internal platforms, SaaS tools, or workflow and decisionsupport systems

  • Experience designing multistep, nonlinear product experiences for different user personas

  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks and UX tools (e.g., React, Figma)

  • Consulting or customerfacing experience translating business problems into technical solutions

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degree

  • Solo-shipping projects through to launch

  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
