Leads a team of Python and Java engineers developing Django services, optimization systems, and Flink/Kafka streaming pipelines. Responsibilities include hiring, mentoring, performance management, technical direction, code review, design reviews, productionizing algorithm prototypes, PostgreSQL scaling, service reliability, planning, and postmortems.
We are looking for an Algo Development Engineering Manager to lead a small team of Python and Java engineers. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining Django services, as well as Flink and Kafka streaming pipelines. You will drive technical direction, manage and mentor the team, review code, and help turn algorithm prototypes into reliable, production-ready services.
Requirements:- A degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Real engineering management experience. You've owned hiring, performance, and delivery for a team, and you can talk honestly about both growing engineers and managing people out.
- Depth in Python or Java, with working fluency in the other. This one isn't negotiable. You should be able to read a pull request, ask the right questions, and jump into the code yourself.
- Experience taking prototype or notebook work into a production system that you then had to run.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL scaling: query tuning, indexing, and schema design. You can read a query plan, find the query that's hurting, and fix it.
- Good technical judgment, plus the ability to explain your reasoning so the team can act on it.
- Hire, mentor, and grow the team. That includes recruiting senior engineers, running performance conversations, and shaping how the team works as it gets bigger.
- Set technical direction for the Django and Django REST Framework service, the Java optimization and services work, and the Flink and Kafka streaming pipelines.
- Decide when a research approach is ready for production and when it needs rethinking first, then get it there.
- Own the health of the Django service on PostgreSQL: the data model, the API surface, performance, and reliability.
- Review pull requests and hold the bar for what ships.
- Run design reviews, planning, and postmortems, and make sure any work that crosses team lines has an owner before it starts.
- 20 days of paid vacation, 5 sick days.
- Flexible schedule with a high level of autonomy.
- Opportunity to influence product and technical decisions.
- Professional growth and learning opportunities.
- Comfortable working environment with a supportive team.
