ParentSquare is a rapidly growing Santa Barbara-based company that’s changing the way schools and parents communicate every day. Sound simple? We strive to keep it that way! Our mission is to give schools the power to incredibly enhance family engagement for all students. ParentSquare and RemindHub, our flagship products, serve over 22 million students and drive our mission by providing unified communications tools -forms, sign ups, payments, RSVPs, direct messaging, language translations, chat and more. Remind Chat, our free product, reaches over 80% of K-12 students, providing a safe and easy-to-use platform for direct communication between teachers and families. And our latest innovation, SmartSites, offers state-of-the-art websites for school districts, enhancing their online presence and accessibility.

We are not just creating a product; we are creating empowered educators and engaged parents to improve the lives of all students.  We are passionate advocates for our  customers and for our employees and we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

Business is booming and we need your help! More schools and districts, and larger schools and districts are buying ParentSquare to help families and educators communicate and partner in support of their students, and we need you!  We need to not only ship clear, simple functionality that makes educators’ lives easier, but we also need to build and run systems that operate robustly at scale, while ensuring the highest level of security for the schools and districts that rely on us.

We are seeking an Android Engineer who will work with our customers and your teammates from product, engineering, design, sales, and marketing to ensure we build the right thing as quickly and as simply as possible. You will both teach and learn from your teammates as you seek to understand their challenges, needs, and expertise as you work with them to ship new features. You will do a little bit of everything - design, code, test, deploy, debug, find and fix bugs, reduce costs, secure our systems, run projects, document challenges, improve processes, and be a trustworthy member of our team.

Most importantly, you’re someone who shares in our passion for improving the lives of students through communication.

This role will include:
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to deliver value for our end users and ship new features in the ParentSquare Android app
  • Maintain the Remind Android app with your team members
  • Design, break down, release, and lead projects that serve the educators and parents who rely on ParentSquare every day
  • Collaborate with peers in the engineering org to continuously improve the cost, security, scalability, and maintainability of the overall ParentSquare ecosystem
  • Work towards operational excellence by identifying and fixing bugs, reviewing your peers’ code, monitoring and optimizing performance, and debugging systems when faults arise
  • Have clear communication and a bias toward collaboration and action
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Experience with Java, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, ViewModels, MVVM
  • Familiarity with Coroutines, Kotlin Flows, reactive programming, Fastlane tools, CircleCI
  • Experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs as well as JSON:API spec
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems (Computer Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Management Information Systems, etc.), or related field.
  • Familiarity with incremental, agile development processes
  • Familiarity with using AI and agentic programming in day-to-day tasks (Gemini, Cursor, GitHub Copilot)
Why Join Us?

At ParentSquare, we believe in winning together and building a product that truly serves schools, educators, and families. We value transparency, collaboration, and an entrepreneurial spirit, and we look for team members who share these values. You’ll have the opportunity to lead design at scale, influence a fast-growing company, and make a meaningful impact on K-12 education.

The perks of working for us are great! You’ll get your foot in the door as our company continues to grow. We’re big believers in work-life balance and provide:

  • Employer-paid health insurance (including dependent coverage)
  • An employer-matched 401K retirement savings program from day 1
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Stock options
  • Health + wellness reimbursements
  • Generous PTO
  • 15 paid holidays, including your birthday!

As a fully remote team, we’ll make sure you have all the tools and equipment you need to make your home office a place where you can thrive.

We're an equal-opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
