Job Description

Expeditors is looking for a software developer to help us build our emerging warehouse management system. The team you would be joining is doing development work on a warehouse management system for our global network of transportation warehouses.  You would be making a difference for end users in hundreds of warehouses around the world. The web application runs on Android-based mobile scanning devices, as well as on PC's. The system is widely used, but much functionality still needs to be built to handle all aspects of our warehouse operations in multiple countries. Our team works regularly with our end users across the globe to determine their greatest needs.  Each new feature that is released is well-received by a hungry audience.

Team structure

You would be part of one of three small agile teams that are working on the transportation warehouse management system. Each team typically has 2-3 developers, 1-2 QA engineers, a Product Owner, and a Scrum Master. There is also a UX designer, SDET, an Architect, and a Program Manager that work with all three teams.

What a typical day looks like

Outside of our short daily scrum meetings, developers spend most of their time either developing, or collaborating with other team members. During each two-week sprint there are meetings for backlog grooming, sprint planning, a sprint demo, and a retrospective.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
