About the Department
The Strategy & Executive Office (SEO) organization is responsible for setting the short, mid, and long-term strategy for Novo Nordisk, Inc and ensures flawless execution of our key priorities. This encompasses long-term strategic planning, empowering and supporting leaders to successfully execute on strategic priorities, as well as driving and delivering high impact enterprise and business unit projects deemed critical to our future success. Furthermore, the Executive Office is responsible for supporting the President of NNI directly to ensure the pull through of priorities to set the direction for the entire organization.
The Position
Responsible for leading activation and implementation of overall company strategy for US Operations (USO) to drive sustainable growth. This leadership role involves actively managing the enterprise-level strategy, ensuring seamless translation and connectivity of strategic ambition, priorities and enablers throughout the organization. The position focuses on leading teams to ensure the strategy is comprehensively understood and implemented as intended by USO leadership. Moreover, the role involves integrating change management practices to facilitate smooth adoption of strategic shifts, and partnering with Finance to connect strategy implementation to investment guidance to ensure efficient and effective use of organizational resources. Close collaboration with the Director of Enterprise Strategy Development is essential to ensure the timely and accurate integration of strategy evolution into strategy management processes.
Relationships
Reports to the Vice President- US Operations Strategy. Internal interactions may include USBD Executive Team, Executive Office, USO LT, functional leads, Corporate Strategy, and other HQ counterparts to ensure strategic coordination across Novo Nordisk. Partners closely with Associate Director- Enterprise Strategy Development. External relationships may include interactions with various subject matter experts and vendors based on the needs of special projects or implementation of new programs.
Essential Functions
  • Enterprise-Level Strategy Management
    • Actively manage and oversee the US Operations strategy, ensuring its effective translation and connectivity to the business as a whole
  • Strategy Implementation Leadership
    • Lead the implementation of strategic priorities within US Operations, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives
  • Change Management Integration
    • Incorporate change management practices to facilitate smooth adoption of strategic shifts and ensure organizational readiness for change
  • Strategic Planning
    • Lead the overall strategic planning process engaging Finance, cross-functional TAs (therapy areas), P&O to manage the overall process incl. Strategy Planning, TA plans, budgeting, and strategic workforce planning. Must ensure an efficient and outcomes focused end to end process that ties our strategy to our TA plans and our resource allocation
  • Strategic Aspirations
    • Responsible for setting, managing, and reporting on the Strategic Aspirations at EVP level and ET level. Close collaboration with senior leaders in USO and Global required. Must ensure the Strategic Aspirations properly reflect our one year targets for our strategy, and that changes are made based on relevant triggers
  • Influence and Collaboration
    • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders across various departments and levels to ensure support and understanding of strategic initiatives. Manage US Operations Strategy Board to work through significant, cross-value chain strategic issues at the enterprise level and represent our organization in providing a unified US Operations perspective
  • Performance Monitoring and Alignment
    • Monitor strategy performance, ensuring that it aligns with the envisioned strategic outcomes and making course corrections as required
  • Communication and Reporting
    • Partner with Executive Communications to develop effective communication channels and reporting mechanisms to provide strategy updates at various audience levels. Develop clear and concise strategic communications and presentations for NAO leadership
  • Strategic Initiatives
    • Identify and define (and in some cases lead) strategic initiatives for the company, focusing on long-term strategy development and driving decision-making to ensure successful execution of key initiatives
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives
    • Drive continuous improvement efforts to refine strategy implementation processes and enhance operational efficiency. Incorporate best practices, innovative tools and approaches to enhance strategic planning, scenario analysis, and decision-making processes
  • Team dynamics
    • Be a leader amongst peers, and to the broader organization, foster a collaborative team environment, empower individuals to drive innovation, achieve strategic goals, and adapt to evolving market demands while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with the Director of Enterprise Strategy Activation to ensure timely and accurate integration of strategy evolution into strategy management processes

Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressively relevant corporate business strategy development and planning, marketing and brand management, consulting, commercial operations experience required; pharmaceutical or CPG industries strongly preferred
  • Business case development, management consulting, strategy, or finance experience preferred
  • Understanding of the external marketplace and familiarity in metabolic disease areas preferred
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with senior management and communicate effectively to the highest level of executives
  • Strong decision-making skills through demonstrated ability to leverage evidenced-based insights and sound judgement into strategy development, deployment and optimization
  • Project management, process development and change management experience required
  • Ability to manage competing priorities; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to streamline and simplify complex concepts for broader audience
  • Proven cross-functional organizational behavior and collaboration skills with ability to influence and inspire multiple levels of leadership
  • People management/team development experience preferred

The base compensation range for this position is $ 148,290 to $ 259,510. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
