Job Description:

Hanson is seeking an Associate Project Manager ready to turn strong technical experience into broader project and team leadership. You will help deliver a diverse portfolio of industrial and infrastructure assignments—including site development, master planning, logistics, ports, and intermodal facilities—while working directly with experienced project managers, technical specialists, and clients.

Designed for an engineering professional with eight or more years of experience, this role offers a clear next step beyond traditional technical delivery. You will expand your capabilities in project management, controls, scheduling, client service, and multidisciplinary leadership while continuing to deepen your engineering expertise.

Position Responsibilities

  • Partner with project managers to plan, coordinate, execute, and deliver industrial and cross-market projects.
  • Help build and align multidisciplinary teams spanning civil, environmental, transportation, structural, mechanical, process, electrical, and planning disciplines.
  • Contribute to client meetings, anticipate needs, and build trusted, long-term relationships.
  • Drive coordination of schedules, deliverables, budgets, decisions, and project documentation.
  • Monitor project performance, identify emerging risks, and support timely corrective action.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 and other project management tools.
  • Champion disciplined document control so critical project information remains accurate, accessible, and current.
  • Shape early project decisions through site development studies, conceptual planning, logistic and supply chain analysis, feasibility assessments, and master planning.
  • Support complex assignments involving industrial facilities, logistics operations, shipping terminals, ports, and intermodal infrastructure.
  • Create alignment among internal teams, clients, partners, and other stakeholders to keep projects moving forward.
  • Help position and win new work through proposal preparation, scope development, scheduling, and delivery strategy.
  • Challenge existing processes and advance practical improvements that strengthen project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical or process engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in engineering, infrastructure, site development, transportation, industrial, or project delivery environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates will utilize their professional experience and further develop skills, or learn new skills, in the following areas:

  • Site development projects.
  • Industrial facilities.
  • Freight, logistics, or distribution infrastructure.
  • Port, marine terminal, or intermodal transportation projects.
  • Exposure to project management principles and project delivery processes.
  • Experience with project scheduling software, including Primavera P6.
  • Experience with project controls, cost tracking, and document management systems.
  • Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • PMP certification or interest in pursuing project management credentials.

What You'll Gain

This is more than a project support role—it is a development path toward project leadership. You will gain broad exposure across Hanson’s Industry Market, receive practical coaching from experienced leaders, and build the judgment, confidence, and relationships needed to take on larger assignments.

  • End-to-end industrial and infrastructure project development.
  • Strategic site selection, feasibility analysis, and master planning.
  • Logistics and supply chain infrastructure strategy and delivery.
  • Port, terminal, and intermodal facility development.
  • Project management methods that translate strategy into reliable execution.
  • Advanced project scheduling with Primavera P6.
  • Project controls, performance tracking, and document governance.
  • Client leadership, communication, and relationship development.
  • Multidisciplinary team leadership, collaboration, and mentorship.

As your capabilities grow, so will your ownership. You will have opportunities to lead coordination efforts, mentor team members, manage client interactions, influence delivery strategy, and progress toward project management and broader leadership roles within Hanson’s Industry Market practice.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
