CADRE is seeking an Automated Tester to design, build, and maintain automated test solutions supporting mission-critical federal programs focused on IT modernization and mortgage technology. This role partners with developers, product owners, and DevSecOps teams to ensure releases are reliable, secure, and compliant with applicable federal expectations. The Automated Tester helps drive a quality engineering culture by increasing automation coverage, shifting testing left, and contributing to continuous delivery in structured, federally aligned environments. This position is 100% remote. Company computer equipment is provided. A background check is required as a condition of employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for UI, API, and regression testing across modernized platforms.

  • Create and execute automated test scripts using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent frameworks.

  • Implement API test automation (REST/JSON) using tools such as Postman/Newman, RestAssured, Karate, or similar.

  • Collaborate with developers to improve testability and implement unit and integration test strategies where appropriate.

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) to enable continuous quality gates.

  • Define and manage test data, test environments, and automated reporting/metrics (pass rates, flaky tests, defect leakage).

  • Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into test scenarios and automation plans; support requirements analysis.

  • Perform defect triage and root-cause analysis; document results to accelerate resolution, reduce recurrence, and support audit readiness.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and collaborate effectively across distributed teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in software testing with significant hands-on test automation responsibility.

  • Proficiency in one or more languages commonly used for automation: Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Experience testing web applications and APIs, including automated regression suites.

  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery and modern SDLC practices.

  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and test execution within CI/CD workflows.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to produce clear test documentation and defect reports.

  • Ability to meet federal contracting requirements, including completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience supporting federal IT programs or regulated environments (quality controls, audit readiness, traceability).

  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices, containerized environments (Docker), and/or infrastructure-as-code concepts.

  • Exposure to accessibility testing concepts (e.g., Section 508/WCAG) and awareness of application security fundamentals (e.g., OWASP Top 10).

  • Experience with mortgage, servicing, lending, or financial systems and/or performance testing (e.g., JMeter, k6).

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
