The position is in the Global Sustainability, AFC, Corporate Regulatory Unit of Legal Affairs. The attorney in this position will be responsible for handling a broad range of insurance, corporate transactional and regulatory matters.
The candidate must be able to provide excellent legal advice and representation, have demonstrated a high degree of discretion, judgment and independence, have excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leaders of the Company, have the intellectual curiosity to understand the interplay of various constituencies involved in corporate transactions and to keep abreast of the changing legal climate, be detail-oriented, and have a strong commitment to personal growth and demonstrating leadership.

How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future:
- Handling corporate and transactional regulatory matters including financial and risk reporting; state insurance holding company law compliance; insurance-related corporate, financing, capital management and M&A transactions; corporate governance; corporate structure optimization; and regulatory engagement.
- Associated activities concern captives and their financings; foreign reinsurance subsidiaries; transactions among affiliated MetLife companies; enterprise support arrangements; shared services and facilities business model; actuarial matters; and legislative and regulatory matters.
- Other responsibilities include research and writing, advising business clients regarding regulatory risks, developing and presenting training and negotiating with regulators.
- Support practice group lead in managing outside counsel, developing and executing strategy and reviewing outside counsel invoices.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):
- Hold a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the New York State (or other appropriate) bar.
- Have at least 5-10 years of legal experience, including strategic matter management and engagement with financial service regulators.
- Exhibit crisp, clear oral and written communication skills; demonstrates the ability to reduce legal issues to straightforward practical analysis and advice.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, writing and facilitation skills. Build relationships at all levels of the organization, including the ability to resolve issues and seek consensus among diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate strength in strategic thinking, identifying key business issues and opportunities, creating business strategies, and driving results across diverse internal teams and/or external partners.
- Demonstrated record of attention to detail, sense of urgency, ability to handle substantial workload effectively (i.e., establish priorities, adhere to deadlines)
