Today's small businesses need a capital provider that keeps pace with their growth ambitions. Traditional financing options are slow, cumbersome and often out of reach. That's why we built Wayflyer.
Our technology allows us to assess businesses in minutes, generate financing offers that reflect their growth potential and send funds in as little as 24 hours. To date, we've deployed over $6bn to thousands of businesses worldwide, backed by Tier 1 banks like J.P. Morgan.
You'll be collaborating with ambitious colleagues from around the world. We have offices in Dublin, London, New York, Charlotte, Berlin and Sydney.
The challenge
We assess businesses in minutes and send funds in as little as 24 hours. That's not a marketing claim, it's an engineering challenge. The systems that make that possible need to be fast, reliable, and built to scale as we grow into new markets. Right now, we need a backend engineer who can help us keep pace with our own ambitions.
What you'll actually do
You'll design and build the backend services that power our core financial products - the APIs, data models, and infrastructure that sit underneath everything a customer experiences with Wayflyer. You'll write clean, well-tested Python and Django code, work closely with cross-functional teams to ship new features, and take real ownership of production systems. That includes code reviews, technical documentation, and performance optimisation - the unglamorous work that keeps production healthy. You won't be handed a ticket queue and left to it. You'll be in the room when the decisions get made.
What this role could turn into
Engineers here tend to grow in the direction they're most interested in - whether that's deepening technical specialism, moving into architecture, or taking on more cross-functional ownership as we scale. We don't prescribe the path. We build the conditions for it.
Who thrives here
You're the kind of person your teammates actually want to work with - generous with your knowledge, honest about where you stand, and genuinely invested in the people around you. You're confident making and defending technical decisions, but also welcome disagreement. Feedback makes you better, not defensive. You translate complexity into plain language without losing the nuance. You spot problems before they become incidents.
We hire for range
We're less interested in a perfect checklist match than in engineers who've built real things, taken ownership of them, and learned from what broke. 5 or more years of backend development experience with Python, and solid working knowledge of Django (or FastAPI/Flask). You'll need to be comfortable with PostgreSQL, ORM frameworks, AWS, API design, and microservices. Experience in fintech or financial services is a genuine plus - what we build has real stakes. A CS degree or equivalent practical experience is fine; we care more about what you've shipped than where you studied.
Location and working policy
📍Fully remote, Europe.
The good stuff
25 days off, plus public holidays. Private healthcare, life insurance, and a pension. Equity - because you should own a piece of what you're building. Generous parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers. 60 days a year to work abroad from wherever you want.
