About us

Our mission is to reinvent the way people learn, starting with language.

Learning a language can change a life by opening doors to new cultures, careers, and communities. Two billion people around the world are actively trying to learn a language, but the best way to learn (one-on-one tutoring) is hard to access at scale and hasn’t been meaningfully improved in decades. Speak is building a human-level, AI-powered tutor in your pocket: a conversation-first experience that lets learners actually speak, get instant feedback, and progress through carefully designed lessons. The result is a complete path from beginner to confident speaker across multiple languages.

Speak first launched in South Korea in 2019, where Speak has now become the number one language learning app, and we now serve learners across many markets and 15+ languages. Speak is one of the world’s leading AI companies, with over $150m raised in venture investment from OpenAI, Accel, Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and more, with a distributed team across San Francisco, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Ljubljana.

We are looking for a part-time remote Bilingual English/Spanish Learning Designer (Contractor) to join Speak's content team and help create high-quality language learning materials for our LATAM users.

We are eager to work with content developers who

  • have native or near-native bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English

  • have a deep understanding of spoken fluency development in both English and Spanish and can develop, edit, or localize innovative, engaging, and pedagogically sound materials for learners.

  • have experience successfully teaching or developing learning modules/materials for learners online or in-app.

This is a part-time, fully remote contract role that requires 20 hours availability per week.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Curriculum design and lesson writing: Design learning materials (lesson scripts, activities, unit summaries) for learners at varying proficiency levels across the Spanish-English language pair. Participate in content projects from planning through writing, production, and launch.

  • Content QA across both languages: Review and quality-check content in both Spanish and English, catching errors in language accuracy, pedagogical soundness, tone, and formatting.

  • AI-assisted content production: Use AI tools to accelerate drafting and localization workflows. We value people who can guide AI output with creative judgment, shaping it into something that meets Speak's quality bar and recognizing when it needs a human touch.

  • Translation and localization: Translate and localize in-app learning and marketing content into LATAM Spanish, ensuring cultural and linguistic appropriateness.

  • Content iteration: Revise and polish content based on QA feedback, user testing results, and peer reviews.

  • Collaboration: Work remotely with a US-based team. Participate in content team syncs and discussions as needed; contribute insights about the LATAM learner market.

What We’re Looking For
Required
  • Native Spanish speaker (LATAM Spanish) with near-native English proficiency in both spoken and written communication.

  • 3+ years of professional learning design or curriculum design experience. We're looking for someone for whom learning design is an established craft, with hands-on experience designing learning experiences for a product or platform (not solely classroom instruction).

  • Experience in edtech, app-based learning, or a closely related field (e.g., digital learning platforms, game-based learning, corporate L&D with a digital delivery component).

  • Demonstrated ability to work with AI tools for content production.

  • Strong attention to detail. You'll be QA-ing content in two languages, so a careful eye for accuracy, tone, and consistency matters a lot in this role.

  • Self-directed and a quick learner. You'll have a lot of ownership over your work within an established pipeline. We're looking for someone who picks things up quickly, asks good questions, and keeps things moving.

  • Strong creative judgment. AI can generate a lot of content, but your value is in knowing what good looks like, steering output in the right direction, and bringing original ideas that AI wouldn't come up with on its own.

Preferred
  • Experience with translation and localization workflows, particularly localizing English content into Spanish.

  • Familiarity with spoken fluency development or conversation-focused learning design.

  • Prior experience working with AI-generated content in a production environment (not just personal experimentation).

  • Experience working remotely with international or US-based teams across time zones.

Why work at Speak
  1. Join a fantastic, tight-knit team at the right time: we're growing very quickly, we've most recently raised our Series C from some of the top investors in the valley, and we've achieved product-market fit in our initial markets. You'd join at a magical time when a single person could significantly change the course of the company.

  2. Do your life's work with people you’ll love working with: we care strongly about our craft and want every person at Speak to feel like they're growing every day. We believe in the idea that working with people you both enjoy and have respect for makes everything better. We hire thoughtfully and only work with people we admire deeply.

  3. Global in nature: We're live in over 40 countries and launching in a number of new markets soon. We have dedicated offices in San Francisco, Ljubljana, Seoul, and Tokyo, and you’ll have the opportunity to talk to users in each of these regions on a regular basis as well as travel.

  4. Impact people's lives in a major way: Learning a language is one of the single most life-changing skills one can learn, and right now 99% of people never achieve their goal because the process is broken. We’re helping millions of people achieve their goals and improve their lives.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
