Territory-based sales engineer for blast furnace and hot-end equipment. Build long-term client relationships, perform on-site technical assessments, manage full sales lifecycle, coordinate with fabrication and engineering, and monitor market cycles for capital equipment opportunities across the Great Lakes region.
Company Type: Premier Industrial Manufacturing Group (Metals & Power Generation) Location: Regional Field Role (Territory: IN, OH, MI, or Western IL/Chicago) Experience: 5+ Years Industrial/Steel Sales Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 Base + Bonus + Vehicle + Pension
With a manufacturing heritage dating back nearly two centuries, our group is a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialized equipment for the metals, power, and petrochemical industries. We are defined by a "winning culture" and extreme stability, with a staff that frequently boasts tenures of 30 years or more. We provide the essential "hot end" equipment that allows the world’s largest steel mills to operate safely and efficiently.
We are not looking for a traditional "hunter." Due to our long-standing market reputation and dominance, the vast majority of our leads convert into sales. We are seeking a Farmer—a relationship-oriented professional who excels at building deep trust with plant managers, maintenance departments, and engineers. Your objective is not cold-calling; it is to serve as the trusted technical advisor our clients rely on for their most demanding equipment needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Relationship Management: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for steel mills across the Midwest territory.
- Technical Consultation: Conduct site visits to "hot end" environments to identify equipment wear, campaign life extensions, and safety improvement opportunities.
- Account Stewardship: Manage the full sales lifecycle, from identifying requirements to coordinating with internal fabrication and engineering teams.
- Market Intelligence: Stay embedded in the steel and power generation sectors to anticipate large-scale capital equipment replacement cycles.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Industry Background: Significant experience in Blast Furnace operations or "Hot End" steel mill environments (working in areas where steel is molten or being formed) is highly preferred.
- Mechanical Aptitude: You must be mechanically inclined. While an engineering degree is not required, you must be able to "speak the language" of a machine shop and a heavy industrial plant.
- Sales Profile: Proven success in industrial B2B sales. We are looking for a professional who prioritizes building long-term trust over short-term "closings."
- Location: Must be based within the Great Lakes industrial corridor (Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, or Illinois).
- Career Outlook: We are looking for a veteran professional seeking a "forever home"—someone who wants to grow with a stable organization and retire within the company family.
Benefits
We offer a "tenure-track" compensation package that is virtually unmatched in the current market:
- Competitive Salary: $120k–$140k base (flexibility available for the right subject matter expert).
- Incentives: Performance-based bonus and commission structure.
- Retirement Security: In addition to a 401(k) with a match, we offer a rare Pension Plan with a substantial company match—a primary driver of our high employee retention.
- Tools for Success: Company vehicle provided, along with comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance.
- Stability: Join a team where the culture is backed by nearly two centuries of industrial success.
