Job Title: Business Analysis Director

Location: Atlanta, GA; Hartford, CT

Reports To: Head of Transformation

Summary:

The Business Analysis Director will operate at both strategic and execution levels—partnering with business and technology stakeholders to define solutions that drive meaningful impact across our insurance value chain. In this role, you’ll be hands-on in performing business analysis activities while also mentoring analysts, shaping best practices, and raising the overall standard of analysis across projects.

This position is critical to enabling successful delivery of initiatives that improve underwriting, operations, claims, and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Hands-On Business Analysis Execution:

  • Lead and personally perform end-to-end business analysis activities for key initiatives—requirements elicitation, business process analysis, gap analysis, and future-state design.

  • Translate complex business needs into clear and concise business, functional, and non-functional requirements.

  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, and working sessions to define problems, uncover opportunities, and validate solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, project managers, developers, and QA teams to ensure requirements are understood, testable, and traceable.

Leadership & Best Practices:

  • Serve as the lead BA on large-scale programs or multiple smaller projects, balancing execution with oversight responsibilities.

  • Define and promote BA standards, tools, and templates that align with delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and peer reviews for other BAs to support high-quality outputs and consistent practices.

  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying areas for efficiency and standardization in business analysis practices.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a strategic partner to business leaders, ensuring that solutions are aligned with business goals and deliver measurable value.

  • Bridge the gap between business and technology to ensure shared understanding and successful delivery.

  • Support change readiness activities by contributing to training, communication, and adoption planning as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on business analysis experience, including leading analysis efforts for large or complex initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of insurance operations, ideally within the Small Commercial or P&C sector (underwriting, claims, policy admin, etc.).

  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality requirements artifacts and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience with process modeling, data analysis, and workflow documentation tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, Jira, Confluence, SQL).

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, either through direct management or mentorship of BAs.

  • CBAP, PMI-PBA, or similar certification is a plus.

What Hiscox USA Offers:

  • Competitive salary and bonus (based on personal & company performance)

  • 401(k) with competitive company matching

  • Comprehensive health insurance, vision, dental and FSA plans (medical, limited purpose, and dependent care)

About Hiscox:

As an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
