Say hello to Hagerty

Hagerty is a company built by drivers for drivers. We put our members at the center of everything we do and are dedicated to making it easier and more enjoyable for enthusiasts to drive and celebrate the machines they love. We’re proud to be the world’s largest insurer of collectible and enthusiast vehicles and are home to the Hagerty Drivers Club, the world’s largest car club. Our Marketplace business presents live and digital sales across the U.S. and Europe, we host a number of driving events and concours, and our award-winning automotive journalists produce the most popular car magazine globally, alongside internationally awarded videos. We’re committed to Never Stop Driving. Ready to get in the driver’s seat? Join us!

As a Business Application Developer, you will be responsible for building and supporting internal tools and automations that help the business move faster and operate more efficiently. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders to understand what they need, deliver solutions quickly in low-code/no-code platforms (e.g., ReTool/AppSmith/Microsoft Dynamics 365), and build code-based point solutions and integrations where necessary. You’ll take ownership of the tools you ship and ensure reliability through sensible testing, monitoring, and secure implementation practices.

What you’ll do

Build and enhance internal applications

  • Implement features and improvements for internal tools, primarily using declarative platforms (e.g., ReTool, AppSmith, Microsoft Dynamics 365) and extending them with JavaScript/TypeScript as needed.
  • Build clean, usable front-end experiences for internal users when a code-based point solution outside a platform is the best fit.
  • Consume and integrate APIs to connect systems and automate workflows, using appropriate authentication patterns and service accounts.

Create automation pipelines that reduce manual work

  • Build automation pipelines that streamline business processes, reduce repeatable effort, and minimize errors.
  • Build code-based point solutions for data cleanup, reconciliation, scraping, or one-time migrations when needed to support business outcomes.
  • Design solutions with clear inputs/outputs and predictable behavior so they can be maintained over time.

Operate what you ship

  • Maintain and improve existing tools by responding to user feedback, fixing defects, and iterating on usability and performance.
  • Partner with stakeholders and the Team Lead to validate requirements, incorporate user feedback, and iterate on tools based on usage and support signals.
  • Contribute to operational readiness by adding practical logging, error handling, and monitoring for critical workflows.
  • Participate in the team’s on-call rotation, sharing responsibility for production support, incident response, and reliability.

Support releases and environments

  • Deploy and maintain applications through established Azure deployment and promotion practices (dev/test/prod), following versioning and release guidelines.
  • Participate in lightweight, rapid release routines (release notes, validation checks, rollback awareness) to ensure safe changes.

Apply disciplined engineering practices in a low-code environment

  • Follow established team standards for data access, security, secrets management, testing, and release practices, and partner with the Team Lead to improve or introduce standards as needed.
  • Contribute to test coverage through platform-appropriate automated tests and regression checks for key workflows.
  • Validate data accuracy in outputs where it matters (expected/actual comparisons, basic reconciliation, anomaly awareness) and raise issues early when results look suspicious.
This might describe you
  • Experience building and supporting internal tools and workflow automations using declarative/low-code platforms in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
  • Experience building internal tools in low-code/no-code or declarative platforms (e.g., ReTool/AppSmith/Microsoft Dynamics 365), or the ability to ramp quickly in these tools.
  • Strong front-end skills, including experience with React (or a similar framework) and building user-friendly, maintainable interfaces.
  • Strong API consumption skills (REST and/or GraphQL), including auth basics and working with service accounts.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (or equivalent) and comfort querying data, validating results, and supporting data-driven workflows.
  • Comfortable with automation tooling and building code-based point solutions for tasks like scraping, data cleanup, and one-off transformations.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and cloud deployments; experience maintaining Azure deployments is a plus.
  • A quality and ownership mindset: you care about reliability, observability, and improving what you ship based on real user feedback.

Other things to note

  • This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.
  • May require travel for quarterly events.
  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
