D. E. Shaw Research (DESRES) seeks exceptionally accomplished individuals to join our New York City–based group as Business Operations Associates. We’re looking for self-motivated individuals with meticulous attention to detail, outstanding communications skills, and exceptional organizational abilities, who excel at independent work, problem solving, and multitasking. Candidates should have experience directly managing contract negotiations and vendor relationships, especially with respect to software licensing agreements.

In this role, individuals will lead contract and vendor management efforts, collaborate with legal, technical, and business development teams, and support operational efforts across the organization. Ideal candidates will have one to five years of relevant work experience in a software environment, specifically in contract management, product management, or a cross-functional operations role.

DESRES, based in New York City, develops and uses advanced computational technologies to understand the behavior of biologically and pharmaceutically significant molecules at an atomic level of detail, and to design precisely targeted, highly selective drugs for the treatment of various diseases.  Among its core technologies is Anton, a proprietary special-purpose supercomputer that DESRES designed and constructed to vastly accelerate the process of molecular dynamics simulation.  DESRES uses Anton machines and high-speed commodity hardware, together with machine learning methods and other computational techniques, in both internal and collaborative drug discovery programs.

We are looking to add innovative contributors who share our commitment to fostering a stimulating, positive, and collaborative work environment.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
