Leidos is seeking three (3) highly skilled CAEG Systems Administrators to provide specialized technical support, administrative oversight, and ensure the high availability of mission-critical engineering assets across the FAA’s Regional Service Areas. This role transitions beyond general IT support to focus on high-performance computing environments, complex server architectures, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and specialized CAD/CAE ecosystems. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the regional engineering platform to maintain 99.9% uptime and uphold strict FAA security and operational standards.

The Computer-Aided Engineering Graphics (CAEG) platform serves as the primary technical repository and design environment for the FAA’s Air Traffic Organization (ATO), directly supporting the safety and integrity of the National Airspace System (NAS).

Locations: Atlanta, GA (Eastern Service Area) | Fort Worth, TX (Central Service Area) | Des Moines, WA (Western Service Area)

Travel: Up to 10% travel to remote FAA sites within the assigned service area jurisdiction

Clearance: Must obtain and maintain an FAA Suitability / Public Trust clearance

Primary Responsibilities

  • System Monitoring & Maintenance: Proactively monitor the health and performance of Windows, Unix, and Linux server environments. Perform tuning for Storage Area Networks (SAN) to optimize data throughput for massive engineering files. Generate Capacity Planning Reports using simulation models to resolve hardware bottlenecks and prevent system degradation.

  • CAD/CAE Application & License Administration: Administer Autodesk and Bentley licensing servers to ensure continuous software availability across the regional network. Manage the ProjectWise Integration Server and Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) for seamless drawing collaboration. Oversee network plotter drivers and large-format printing interfaces.

  • Cybersecurity Compliance: Manage Active Directory (AD) objects and enforce granular access control measures. Direct security patching and vulnerability remediation activities to ensure 100% compliance with FAA timelines.

  • Database Administration & Disaster Recovery: Execute daily database replication and EDMS backups. Maintain and test the Enterprise Architecture-aligned Disaster Recovery (DR) plan annually in a NetApp environment to guarantee business continuity.

  • Tier 3 Technical Support & Mentorship: Serve as an escalation point for complex CAD/CAE system failures. Provide high-level technical mentorship and guidance to non-specialist engineering staff regarding platform capabilities and best practices.

  • Reporting: Prepare weekly status reports, monthly uptime metrics (targeting 99.9% availability), monthly security patch logs, and annual DR exercise reports.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters degree and 6 years of prior relevant experience. May consider hands on training with additional years of proven experience in lieu of degree.

  • Hands-on experience as a System Administrator for Bentley ProjectWise.

  • Hands-on experience as a System Administrator for Autodesk Vault.

  • Technical experience working with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, and Autodesk ReCap.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods encompassing data storage (SAN/NetApp), OS administration (Windows, Unix, Linux), software applications, and regional networking.

  • Proven ability to use analytical and evaluative methods to identify and resolve high-level capacity, availability, and system hardware issues.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver technical documentation, status updates, and user mentorship.

  • Ability to successfully pass background investigation to obtain and maintain an FAA Suitability / Public Trust clearance prior to starting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting IT/engineering infrastructure within the FAA, DoD, or other government aviation/defense environments.

  • Experience administering NetApp storage systems and conducting annual Disaster Recovery (DR), gap analyses and testing.

  • Background in managing large-format physical plotting networks and driver configurations for engineering teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to extrapolate from past technical scenarios to independently solve novel, complex platform failures.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
