The Carbon Dioxide Removal(CDR) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company - engaging with business groups on the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development.

The CDR team seeks an impact-driven, high-performing individual to join our team as a Carbon Removal Program Manager, focused on science & quality and due diligence workstreams. This position will contribute to two scopes of work (1) accelerating the MSCDR diligence process while maintaining or improving diligence rigor, and (2) developing new, high-quality CDR pathways and projects via procurement and partnerships.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end CDR procurement process, including revising the CDR application questionnaire, identifying external scientific advisors, managing external diligence content and delivery timelines, and coordinating across a team of Microsoft CDR buyers.
  • Structure and negotiate diligence contracts with a bench of external advisors.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in open system CDR project diligence and procurement, e.g., enhanced rock weathering, soil organic carbon, and abiotic ocean CDR.
  • Solicit and review CDR proposals by working closely with external advisors to ensure scientific/technical integrity throughout the procurement process and with colleagues to confirm fit with overall portfolio strategy.
  • Structure and negotiate CDR purchase agreements for carbon credits that maximize upside and learning about scalability of new CDR pathways while minimizing risk of harm to local ecosystems, communities, and Microsoft.
  • Produce internal and external presentations on CDR projects, pathways, and markets.
  • Track and analyze relevant advancements in CDR science and policy, including innovations in measurement, risk management, and cost reduction. Assess the need to incorporate advancements in Microsoft diligence and procurement.
  • Embody our Culture and Values
