Percona's Community Team is growing, and we're looking for a versatile, people-first community builder to help us grow and support the global Percona open source community. This role sits at the intersection of online community management, internal program delivery, and in-person event representation. You'll be the connective tissue between our developer community, our forum and Slack, our internal community programs, and our presence at events around the world.

This is a hands-on, varied role for someone who is equally comfortable moderating a Slack channel, writing a quick fix for our website, running a contributor program, and staffing a booth at a conference on the other side of the world. We're deliberately not narrowing this role to a single lane — if you're a generalist who thrives on variety and genuinely enjoys people and community, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do

Social Media

  • Create and manage social content that engages the developer and DBA community authentically.

  • Partner with our engineering experts and to amplify community voices and content.

  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and their communities for joint events and initiatives.

  • Create video and short-form content that brings the social engagement plan to life, using AI-assisted tools to work more efficiently without compromising quality.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit) and how content performs across each.

  • Experience with Buffer, Sprout Social or comparable scheduling and listening tools.

  • Comfortable on camera and able to create authentic, engaging short-form video content.

Online Community Engagement

  • Own day-to-day engagement on the Percona Forum and Community Slack welcoming new members, answering or routing questions, and keeping discussions active and healthy.

  • Monitor community health and sentiment across channels, flagging issues and celebrating wins.

  • Build relationships with active contributors, MVPs, and long-time community members.

Events & On-the-Ground Support

  • Travel to conferences, meetups, and partner events to represent Percona and staff the booth or table.

  • Provide regional support for community and partner events, from swag to schedules to on-site troubleshooting.

  • Act as the on-site point person, comfortable making real-time calls when things don't go to plan

Internal Programs

  • Help run and continuously improve internal community programs (e.g. ambassador/advocate programs, contributor recognition, onboarding for new community members).

  • Coordinate internally with Marketing, Product, and Engineering to keep programs aligned with company priorities.

  • Track program metrics and report on community growth and engagement.

Website & Technical Maintenance

  • Perform light-to-moderate coding and maintenance on Percona's community website (content updates, bug fixes, small feature work).

What You Have Done
  • Experience running or actively contributing to an online community (forum, Slack, Discord, or similar) ideally in an open source, developer, or technical context.

  • Comfortable with basic-to-intermediate coding (e.g. HTML/CSS/JS or similar) for website maintenance; you don't need to be a senior engineer, but you should be able to make changes without hand-holding.

  • Experience planning or supporting in-person events, with the willingness and ability to travel regularly.

  • Social media savvy, with an understanding of what resonates with developer and technical audiences.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable being the public face of the team both online and in person.

  • Self-directed and organized able to juggle community moderation, program work, event logistics, and small dev tasks in the same week.

  • Genuine enthusiasm for open source and developer communities.

  • Video editing / creating experience

What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Familiarity with database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) or open source infrastructure communities.

  • Experience with community platforms such as Discourse, Slack admin tooling, or similar.

  • Prior experience with ambassador, advocate, or contributor recognition programs.

Location & Travel

Remote, with flexibility across time zones to support a global community. This role requires regular travel to conferences and partner events (approximately 25–30% of the year) - exact cadence to be confirmed with the hiring manager.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
