Job Description

OVERVIEW

The General Counsel is responsible for supporting the implementation of Spring Venture Group’s Compliance program and requires an advanced working knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations applicable to health insurance agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The essential duties for this role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Work is generally independent.
  • Assist the Compliance Department in the implementation of the Company’s Compliance program. 
  • Research and advise on federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations that impact  SVG agencies including but not limited to HIPAA and TCPA. Provide other legal research as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Conduct contract reviews and draft legal documents as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Assist in  the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with established legal principles and requirements.
  • Escalate compliance and privacy concerns to the General Counsel.
  • Provide oversight in assessing product, compliance, privacy or operational risks and contribute to risk management strategies.
  • Assist in the management of litigation as needed.
  • Contribute to the annual Compliance Work Plan.
  • Maintain an expert-level knowledge of compliance trends and applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations to ensure compliance practices are maintained and upheld. 
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with admittance to at least one state bar in good standing. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of similar or related experience.
  • Law License in at least one state. 
  • Healthcare Compliance, Privacy Certifications are a plus.

SKILLS/SPECIALTIES

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of HIPAA and TCPA.  
  • Prior experience in health insurance compliance
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Acute listening skills.
  • Excellent legal research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to record detailed information thoroughly and accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and with coworkers and share knowledge as part of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well in diverse cultures with diverse personalities whether local or virtual.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive as well as responsive —and able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.
  • Self-motivated.

  • Work Environment/Physical Demands:
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
