The salary range for this position is $115692 - $151,471.

We are looking for a Configuration Management leader. As an Configuration Manager, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

IonQ is known for innovative technologies that solve problems for a wide range of industries, and we need a new problem-solver to take the reins. We are seeking a Configuration Manager to help us ensure that the performance, function, and appearance of our products are consistent. As a member of the Systems Engineering team, you will be an integral part of establishing best practices for our Product Development Lifecycle. This involves managing the Technical Data Packages (functional requirements, design, and operational information) throughout each product's lifecycle. You will also help develop transition plans to other organizations and support deployment to operations. Applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree as well as experience with configuration management tools.


Objectives of this role:

Define Configuration Management at IonQ:

  • Develop/Manage the Configuration Management across IonQ technical teams
  • Define/Manage CM requirements for a Configuration Management System (CMS), CM Database (CMDB), and CM Tools
  • Define/Manage the IonQ CM Team build out (Short to Long Term)


Responsibilities:

Inventory Technical Data:

  • Inventory all current and past technical data artifacts and organize per CM plan in CMS
  • Direct and implement organizational business rules for relevant tool suite

Facilitate Change Management:

  • Manage Change Workflow for all projects and Engineering Change Classification & Approval Structure

Develop and maintain Standards & Conventions:

  • Forms, Templates, and Checklists
  • Data naming and numbering conventions

Deliver day-to-day CM services to the organization to deliver work products that support ongoing CM operations:

  • Perform operational activities as defined by CM policies and procedures
  • Fulfill CM service requests as assigned
  • Engage with strategic projects to ensure configuration management can deliver the required functionality within project timeframes
  • Mentor the organization on CM services, concepts, policies, and procedures
  • Run and delivering reports as required
  • Collect and reporting on metrics as required
  • Identify and reporting on noncompliance situations
  • Perform CM audits as directed
  • Identify improvement opportunities
  • Oversee the design, coding, and testing of reports as needed
  • Support other Business functions with CM as needed
     

Future Responsibilities:

  • CM Leadership: Mentor and direct configuration management analysts and specialists
  • Maintain and Evolve Configuration Management processes and procedures as the company grows


Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business, Computer Science, Configuration Management, Library Science, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years performing in a Configuration Management role in a complex technical industry
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management (CM) best practices and standard version-control for both hardware and software.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Configuration Management or Engineering Management
  • Professional certification CMPIC or INCOSE certification or equivalent
  • Experience with or knowledge of ITSM, CMMI, or ITIL best practices
  • Experience with Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Confluence), Software CM tools (Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket,...), PLM tools (Arena, Windchill, Duro,...)
  • Experience working in an R&D or product development environment, preferably in the field of high tech engineering.
  • Subject matter expert for any of the following sub-specialties: Document Management, Product Data Management, Hardware Configuration Management, Software Configuration Management, MBSE or Knowledge Management.

This position is located in our newest facility in Bothell, WA.




Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying!

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.  The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level.
