Consumer Goods Staff Writer

Buy Side from WSJ is seeking a consumer goods staff writer to help guide readers to make smart, informed decisions on what to buy. This writer will help readers make smart shopping decisions, from picking out the perfect gift for your mother-in-law to finding the best cashmere sweater.

Your responsibilities will include reporting and writing product guides and other service content.

We need journalists who are entrepreneurial. Commerce content experience is not required. Our goal is to create commerce content and storytelling that resonates with our readers.

About Buy Side from WSJ:

Dow Jones’s reviews and recommendations site is independent of The Wall Street Journal newsroom, and dedicated to helping consumers make smart decisions about how to spend their time and money. 

You Will:
  • Write and continually optimize shopping guides, producing multiple stories each week.

  • Pitch new story ideas in existing verticals and where there are gaps in the market.

  • Keep a pulse of trends in the industry.

You Have:
  • 4+ years experience working as a journalist.

  • Knowledge of personal technology, consumer products and lifestyle goods.

  • Reporting skills and the ability to identify and vet expert sources.

  • Experience writing and/or editing service journalism content is a plus.

  • Experience using SEO insights to identify new content areas and to improve the performance of articles.

  • Talented writer able to deliver content that is both helpful and engaging.

  • Efficient researcher and writer able to work to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to produce well-reported, clean, publish-ready articles.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented.

  • Understanding of social media.

  • College degree preferred

Pay Range: $70,000 - $85,000
