COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Zentalis® Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing azenosertib (ZN-c3), a potentially first-in-class and best-in-class WEE1 inhibitor for patients with Cyclin E1+ platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC). Azenosertib is being evaluated as a monotherapy and in combination across multiple tumor types in clinical trials and has broad franchise potential. In clinical trials, azenosertib has been well tolerated and has demonstrated anti-tumor activity as a single agent across multiple tumor types. The Company is also leveraging its extensive experience and capabilities to translate its science to advance research on additional areas of opportunity for azenosertib outside PROC.
JOB SUMMARY:
Zentalis® Pharmaceuticals, Inc is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting team. The Controller role includes oversight of accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, banking, insurance and risk management, payroll, stock plan administration, tax and treasury. The Corporate Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate. The position will report to the Senior Vice President and Principal Accounting Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all aspects of accounting including month-end close, compensation accounting and expense reporting, including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
- Establishment and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
- Prepare financial reports, analyses and other materials for our leadership team and board of directors
- Coach, develop and train staff, set performance goals, lead feedback discussions, performance evaluation, and performance reviews. Will also assist with career mentoring, and disciplinary matters as necessary.
- Manage annual financial audit with outside CPA firm
- Manage internal audit function with external firm
- Manage the company's cash disbursement processes and bank balances.
- Ensure compliance with the company's investment policy
- Maintain financial information technology platforms
- Coordinate corporate tax provision, reporting and tax return preparation with outside accountants
- Research relevant technical issues and recommendation of accounting treatment
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Education: Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or another relevant discipline is required.
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive growth in financial roles in biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies, including at least 5 years in financial leadership roles
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with public company reporting including 1OKs and 10Qs
- Experience in Life Science/biotech/pharmaceuticals is required
- Strong analytical and Excel skills
- Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Excellent leadership qualities
- Emphasis on teamwork, problem-solving ability, and time management
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
