About the role
We’re hiring a Product Engineer to build at the intersection of the Plenful platform and the complex healthcare systems our customers rely on. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and building integrations that connect Plenful to external systems such as EMRs, payors, and other critical healthcare infrastructure.

As a Product Engineer, you’ll sit between platform engineering and customer facing teams—owning the technical execution of how Plenful interacts with external systems. You’ll work with APIs, EDI interfaces, and healthcare data standards to enable seamless data exchange and power real-world decision-making.

You’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous requirements into scalable solutions, and help shape how Plenful expands its integration capabilities over time.
This role reports to our Head of Product Engineering and offers significant scope for growth as we scale our platform and deepen our footprint across healthcare ecosystems.
What you’ll do

Build integrations across healthcare systems

  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between Plenful and external systems such as EMRs (Epic, Cerner, Athena), payors, wholesalers, and other healthcare platforms
  • Develop and maintain REST API integrations and data pipelines between systems
  • Work with healthcare data formats including EDI X12, FHIR, and other structured data interfaces
  • Build and manage interfaces for claims, payor/PBM systems, and other transaction-based workflows

Own data flow and decisioning

  • Pull, transform, and process data from multiple external systems
  • Enable downstream decision-making and automation based on integrated data
  • Ensure reliability, accuracy, and scalability of data pipelines

Bridge product and engineering

  • Translate product requirements and customer needs into technical implementations
  • Partner with platform engineering to define and build reusable integration capabilities
  • Contribute to system design decisions around APIs, data models, and integration architecture
  • Build prototypes to remove ambiguity and give team additional clarity around requirements

Partner with customer-facing teams

  • Collaborate with technical customer success and product teams to implement and iterate on integrations
  • Troubleshoot and improve live integrations in customer environments
  • Incorporate real-world feedback into the product

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • 3–6 years of experience in a software engineering or integration-focused role
  • Experience building integrations between systems, ideally in healthcare or other complex data environments
  • Experience working with external APIs and/or data exchange systems

Technical skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python (or similar language)
  • Experience working with REST APIs and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with translating data between formats such as JSON, XML, and CSV

Highly preferred:

  • Experience with EDI / X12 transactions
  • Experience with AS2 or similar secure data transport protocols
  • Familiarity with claims workflows, payor/PBM systems, or other healthcare financial transactions

Nice to have:

  • Experience with HL7 or FHIR
  • Experience with interface engines or integration platforms

Core competencies

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate ambiguous requirements
  • Ability to bridge product thinking with technical execution
  • Comfortable working across teams (engineering, product, customer-facing)
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on building reliable, scalable systems

Miscellaneous

  • Excited to work in a fast-paced, early-stage environment
  • Interested in solving real-world healthcare interoperability challenges
  • Comfortable owning problems end-to-end and iterating quickly

Educational background

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science or equivalent experience

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
