Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Corporate Controller to lead and oversee the company's financial accounting and reporting functions. As a key member of the Finance leadership team, the Corporate Controller will play a pivotal role in supporting the company’s transition to a public company. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls, with specific expertise in managing the complexities of public company requirements, including SEC reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and IPO readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and public company reporting standards (e.g., SEC reporting, 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K filings).
    • Manage the consolidation of financial results for all entities.
    • Develop and implement financial reporting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
    • Provide in-depth financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and key performance indicator (KPI) tracking.
  • Accounting Operations:

    • Manage all aspects of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset management.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions.
    • Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
    • Develop and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-oxley (SOX) requirements.
    • Oversee revenue recognition for software subscriptions, licenses, and services, adhering to ASC 606 standards.
    • Manage capitalization of internal use software development costs (ASC 350-40) and R&D tax credits.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Support the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting cycles.
    • Monitor budget vs. actual performance and provide insightful commentary on variances.
    • Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Cash Management:

    • Monitor daily cash management activities.
    • Support optimization of working capital management.
  • Tax & Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales tax, income tax, and payroll tax.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors for tax planning and filing.
    • Stay current on changes in accounting regulations and tax laws relevant to the software industry.
  • Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, as team grows.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • System & Process Improvement:

    • Identify and implement improvements to accounting systems (e.g., ERP, billing systems) and processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
    • Leverage technology to automate financial processes where possible.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role, preferably within a software development or SaaS company.
  • Experience with public company reporting requirements, including SEC filings, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, particularly ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and ASC 350-40 (Internal-Use Software).
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Unanet, SAP, Oracle Financials) and financial reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (advanced functions, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related.
  • Familiarity with various software development methodologies (e.g., Agile) and their impact on financial operations.
  • Experience with due diligence processes for M&A activity.
  • Prior experience with managing the transition from private to public company financial operations.
