Job Description

We are seeking a Creative Director to lead our Nordstrom Rack Brand Campaigns and Image team to ensure world class output that connects and resonates with customers to deliver results. Our Marketing vision is to ignite growth through deepening customer connection.  Our team is responsible for delivering brand and performance-based advertising campaigns, loyalty communications, and owned platform content to drive customer engagement, grow our customer base, and execute strategies that will differentiate us from competitors.  

The opportunity to reach customers with the most relevant, personalized content and messaging and how that work is created, produced, targeted and deployed is changing at an extremely fast rate and we are evolving in line with the industry. By strategically leveraging external expertise and technology, we aim to expedite our evolution, enabling our internal team to focus on the highest impact, strategic, custom work and utilizing outsourcing and automation to deliver faster, more scaled content.

Joining us during a pivotal time of transformation, this critical leadership role will significantly contribute to this effort. The Rack Creative team is already on the pathway of change having completed a major Brand Re-design which was successfully implemented in Spring 2023. The reaction has been extremely positive and set up our internal teams to work within a comprehensive system delivering a more compelling and cohesive brand experience for our customers. The Rack Creative Director/Image Director is responsible for continuing to lead and guide the Image team through this time of change, with an ability to modernize management of our brand Image guidelines and ensuring all application executed internally or outsourced supports our business programs and delivers on our priorities They will champion the evolution of ‘new ways of working’ by effectively planning and supporting image creation, to provide best in class, brand right imagery and video from high touch custom to high volume scaled creation and versioning to fuel business demand. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced Image leader skilled in planning and executing brand enhancing, customer engaging imagery and video. They are well versed in developing Creative strategy and concept direction, for advertising and social in addition to the creation and management of Image brand guidelines and standards.

They will serve as the Nordstrom Rack image expert, leveraging deep knowledge in cultural currency across image techniques and talent. They should be proactive in understanding evolving Image & Video trends at a macro and micro level to capitalize on customer interest, participation in community and cultural conversations, and skillfully determine appropriateness for the Nordstrom Rack target customer.  They have experience working across organizations, understanding the business demands of image in service of Brand Marketing, strategic in leveraging internal and external content creation resources to deliver optimal outcomes.

They have experience leading teams supporting omni channel marketing generating innovative campaigns and powerful promotions from top of funnel through to own channel site/app. They are known for their ability to inspire and motive a team, their strong solution driven partnership, with the ability to drive results from output to meaningful outcomes.

A day in the life...

  • Lead & drive the long-term creative strategy & vision for Nordstrom Rack Image & Video and fulfill Creative Director responsibilities for Image and Video led Brand Campaigns leading conception and ideation (in partnership with Agency and Design & Copy peers) for inhouse work and provide expertise for outsourced, augmented, automated and versioned image in service of brand and business strategy, priorities and goals.

  • Leads & drives the management and maintenance of Nordstrom Rack Brand Image Style guidelines working in partnership with Design and Copy peers to ensure overall brand cohesion across Design, Copy & Image in line with Nordstrom Rack Creative vision to achieve highest recognition, recall and relevancy with target customers.

  • Builds & manages team structure and infrastructure to ensure resources are optimized against business priorities, with clear accountability to achieve team and individual success. 

  • Manages team members across Image/Video (Pre-Production/Art Direction/Video & Editing/Postproduction) - Including Agency Partners to ensure Brand Guidelines are met.

You own this if you have...

  • 8+ years' experience leading creatives from individuals to teams through concept development to successful execution with a background of minimum of 8+ years Art Direction experience.
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in marketing, fashion, arts, advertising, journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proven success in high-volume, fast-paced omni-channel/multi-channel/retail environments across multiple geographies.
  • Skilled in engaging with business leaders, executives, external clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Comfortable delivering executive-level presentations and concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Portfolio demonstrating ability to deliver imagery that conveys brand proposition and/or product offering that resonates with target audience. 
  • Extensive knowledge of influential photographers and photographic styles and references.
  • Knowledge of film and video, new media, and music and/or sound design.
  • Experience concepting and executing brand creative strategy across channels and platforms.
  • Ability to lead teams in producing social media assets with expert level understanding of social platforms and strategy.
  • Experience collaborating closely with stylists, set designers, graphic designers, and copy writers.
  • Never-ending curiosity and enthusiasm for fashion and lifestyle and the cultural universe that surrounds it.
  • Proficient in managing budgets, teams, timelines, and projects while collaborating across departments.
  • A strong aptitude for embracing AI technologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy and innovation in job-related duties.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $150,000-$245,000 annuallyThis position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
