The Team: 

Upstart’s Capital Markets  team plays a pivotal role in securing loan funding capital for our AI lending marketplace.  We collaborate with leading institutional investors across a diverse range of financing and funding solutions, including securitizations, whole loan sales, co-investment partnerships and other structured transactions.  


As the Credit & Capital Risk Management Associate at Upstart, you will  support key risk management initiatives for Upstart’s loan portfolios and co-investment structures.  In this role, you will analyze and interpret complex credit underwriting and performance drivers within our AI-based lending models.  Your insights will shape our risk management strategies and investor narratives in a highly dynamic and evolving market. 


Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements -  As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once a month or once a quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

How you’ll make an impact:

    • Assist in monitoring and managing credit risks across Upstart’s loan portfolios and investment structures.
    • Conduct data-driven analysis to assess credit performance trends and underwriting dynamics.
    • Support the development of investor-facing credit narratives and advocacy on AI-based credit underwriting models.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with capital markets, analytics and finance teams to enhance risk assessment frameworks.
    • Support internal and external reporting requirements on our risk capital or co-investment structures.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Minimum requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or a related field.
    • 2-5 years of experience in credit risk, capital markets, structured finance, or a related area.
    • Strong analytical skills with ability to manage complex cashflow models
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights.

  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Proven success in  working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Familiarity with AI-based underwriting models is a plus 
    • Experience working with large datasets (SQL, Python, or VBA)

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

$101,500$140,330 USD
