Job Summary

The Manager of Credit Products - Specialized supports first-line credit underwriting and portfolio management within the assigned specialized vertical, ensuring compliance with the bank’s risk appetite and policies. This role supervises a team of underwriters and credit analysts, overseeing risk grading, loan evaluation, and portfolio monitoring to maintain credit quality. Using data-driven insights and portfolio analytics, the Manager identifies potential risks and trends, escalating key findings and recommendations to senior leadership. Collaborating with sales, risk, and credit teams, this role helps implement credit strategies, streamline underwriting processes, and support responsible growth. With a focus on operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and team development, the Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a strong and well-managed credit portfolio.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains visibility and knowledge of bank relationships within the assigned specialized region or vertical to ensure alignment with business objectives and credit risk strategies. 

  • Manages, advises, and provides support to Commercial Underwriters, Commercial Portfolio Managers, and Commercial Credit Analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team. 

  • Executes on the strategic priorities set by the Head of Credit Products, Line of Business leaders, Credit Products Senior Director and 2nd and 3rd Line Risk partners to ensure alignment with enterprise goals. 

  • Proactively identifies and escalates areas for improvement in credit processes, policies and procedures 

  • Oversees the quality and consistency of underwriting and portfolio management outputs, ensuring adherence to credit policies, risk appetite, and regulatory standards. 

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the assignment of deal flow and credit risk reviews, ensuring timely and well-informed credit decisions. 

  • Monitors portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks and opportunities to support sound credit decisioning and risk mitigation efforts. 

  • Utilizes credit analysis, financial data, and portfolio insights to assess loan quality and recommend adjustments as needed. 

  • Well versed in legal documentation (e.g., Credit Agreements) and positioned to both develop more junior associates on the topic and interact with internal and external legal counsel and negotiate terms directly with clients. 

  • Collaborates with sales, credit, and risk teams to facilitate responsible growth and optimize portfolio performance. 

  • Ensures compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk frameworks while driving continuous process improvements. 

  • Supports leadership in preparing credit risk reporting and analysis to provide insights on portfolio trends and risk exposures. 

  • Assists in developing and mentoring team members to enhance credit expertise and professional growth. 

  • Recruits, develops, and trains top credit underwriting and portfolio management talent.  

 

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Performs special projects, to include continuous improvement and transformation initiatives, and additional duties and responsibilities as required. 

  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainingsAccountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS  

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Education level required: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent)  in Business, Economics or related field.   

  • Minimum experience required: 10+ Years of 1st line of defense credit underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management experience within the Financial Industry including credit strategy and credit analytics.  

  • 3+ years of experience in managing teams of credit analysts, underwriters in the specialty vertical. 

  • 3+ years of experience in the direct specialized line of business (Specialized commercial industries, capital markets, corporate commercial banking, etc.) 

  • Experience and expertise in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, credit and cash flow modeling for underwriting and portfolio management decisions, income/identity verification and loss forecasting. 

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education level preferred: Master's Degree (or Postgraduate equivalent)  

Job Competencies: 

  • Solid knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to credit decisions, ensuring compliance in daily underwriting and portfolio management tasks. 

  • Proficient in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, underwriting models, and portfolio management strategies, with practical experience in income/identity verification and risk assessments. 

  • Clear communication and presentation skills, able to present credit analysis and supportable recommendations to stakeholders effectively. 

  • Strong ability to apply industry knowledge and market trends to improve credit risk assessments and support decision-making. 

  • Effective at managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and executing tasks efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

  • Strong team collaboration and coaching skills, focused on fostering development and providing support to team members while ensuring high-quality outputs.
