At Bluesight, our mission is to create groundbreaking solutions that increase efficiency, safety and visibility for health systems, hospital pharmacy, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.  We empower our customers to deliver the right medicine to the right patient at the right time, every time.  We are a high growth healthcare information technology company with a start-up 'vibe' but over 3,000 customers using our proven solutions.

We are adding a new role to our Sales organization to support our customer growth and focus on data and product expansion. The Bluesight Customer Data Engineer owns data integration with our customers, ensuring they get value from Bluesight's platform quickly and seamlessly. You'll work directly with hospital customers to understand their data environments, guide them through Bluesight's requirements, and lead the technical work of getting the hospital customer into the platform. You'll also contribute to the internal tooling that makes the next implementation faster and to the product work that accelerates time-to-value.
You'll spend roughly half your time in conversations with customers, maintaining/creating documentation and configuring the system.

The Customer Pre-Sales Data Engineer is a customer advocate who connects the dots between the technical solution and the outcomes for the customer and Bluesight.

Key and Representative Duties:

  • Pre-Sales Data Scope Development: Partner directly with the Sales teams during late-stage sales cycles to evaluate prospective clients' data, sources, and identify potential integration hurdles, and define technical requirements and specifications

  • Data Discovery & Collection: Lead technical workshops with hospital IT departments to map their data structures to our SaaS platform’s requirements. Drive the timeline and execution of data extracts, ensuring all required information is gathered accurately prior to implementation.

  • Technical Consultation: Serve as the trusted data advisor to healthcare clients, explaining complex integration requirements, data formatting, and security protocols in a clear, consultative manner.

  • Implementation Handoff: Translate client data models into actionable integration blueprints. Facilitate a seamless handover of data assets, mapping documentation, and integration requirements to the Implementation teams for go-live. Contribute to internal documentation, playbooks, and tooling that improve the efficiency and consistency of future implementations.

  • Process Optimization: Develop and refine standardized data collection templates, scripts, and pre-sales documentation to accelerate the onboarding timeline for new hospital clients. Partner with Bluesight's data engineering team to productize implementation and transformation logic.

  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all data scoping and collection processes strictly adhere to HIPAA regulations, SOC2 standards, and best practices for handling Protected Health Information (PHI).

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • 4+ years in a technical pre-sales, sales engineering, or technical implementation role within a B2B SaaS environment, preferably in the health tech space.

  • Ability to lead customer-facing technical engagements — managing expectations, communicating data requirements clearly, and driving deliveries to completion.

  • Ability to translate highly technical data requirements to non-technical clinical leaders while holding your own in deep technical discussions with hospital database administrators.

  • SQL skills and demonstrated ability to analyze complex and sensitive datasets.

  • Direct experience working with major Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.

  • Experience with cloud data infrastructure

  • A track record of building internal tools, leveraging AI-assisted development tooling or automating manual work to improve process efficiency.

  • Comfort with ambiguity — customer data environments are varied and there won't always be a direct playbook.

  • Proactive and self-directed — you see what needs doing and drive it to completion without close supervision.

  • Strong working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and secure data transfer protocols (SFTP, API security) for handling PHI.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with standard healthcare data interoperability frameworks and messaging protocols, specifically HL7 (v2 and v3) and FHIR.

  • Familiarity with cloud data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery).

This position is open to applicants in the continental United States.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
