CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we’ve expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

We are seeking a Data Architect (Data Modeling Focus) to support one of our life sciences clients. This consultant will play a pivotal role in designing scalable, well-structured data models that underpin enterprise reporting and analytics. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives at the intersection of data modeling, business domain understanding, and analytics enablement.

You’ll focus on building scalable, well-structured data models that serve as the foundation for enterprise reporting and analytics in an Amazon Redshift and Power BI environment.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement enterprise data models, including star schemas, fact and dimension tables, and semantic models to support analytics in Power BI
  • Build and optimize data architecture within Amazon Redshift, ensuring scalability, performance, and data consistency
  • Develop source-to-target (S2T) mappings, data dictionaries, and lineage documentation for key business domains
  • Translate business and functional requirements into robust data models that support end-to-end reporting
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders across global teams to ensure model alignment and interoperability
  • Work with a variety of key life sciences data sources to model commercial, sales, marketing, and CRM datasets
  • Define, maintain, and enforce modeling standards, best practices, and architectural patterns

What we're looking for

  • Strong experience in data architecture and data modeling, particularly dimensional and semantic modeling
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift or a similar cloud data warehouse platform
  • Proficiency in building semantic models in Power BI
  • Strong SQL skills for model development, validation, optimization, and data quality checks
  • Solid understanding of data governance, metadata, and lineage
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical partners
  • Experience with ERWin or similar data modeling tools
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA, Oracle EPM, and Coupa data structures
  • Exposure to SAP Datasphere, Informatica, or other ETL/ELT platforms
  • Experience working within global or matrixed enterprise environments

Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX’s focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won’t just follow a path - you’ll create one.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
