Who You Are
You are a motivated Database Administration professional who is passionate about ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing database environments across cloud and on-premises platforms. You excel at database performance optimization, troubleshooting, and operational excellence, and have extensive experience administering SQL Server and MongoDB databases, implementing high-availability solutions, and supporting complex database infrastructures. You are a detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment where you can drive database stability, strengthen security and compliance, and continuously improve system performance through automation and innovation.
What You'll Do
- Administer and optimize SQL Server instances across on-premises and Azure environments (SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance); perform capacity planning, performance tuning, index optimization, and query analysis
- Manage MongoDB Atlas clusters and implement security policies, backup and recovery, replication strategies, and performance optimization for document-based workloads
- Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions using Azure SQL Failover Groups, Distributed Availability Groups, and cross-platform replication
- Lead database security initiatives: enforce RBAC, encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging, and compliance with financial services regulations
- Automate operational tasks through T-SQL scripting, PowerShell
- Manage monitoring and alerting infrastructure; analyze performance metrics and proactively identify optimization opportunities
- Support backup/restore operations, and database migration projects
- Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
- 8+ years of hands-on SQL Server database administration experience; 3+ years with Mongo databases
- Proficiency in Azure SQL Database and SQL Managed Instance administration and optimization
- Strong MongoDB Atlas expertise: cluster administration, backups, query optimization, security configuration, and operational best practices
- Ability to leverage the Atlas CLI to deploy and modify clusters programmatically; profiling slow queries, building efficient indexing strategies, and restructuring document schemas
- Advanced T-SQL skills: stored procedures, triggers, query optimization, index tuning, and performance analysis
- Experience with high-availability solutions: Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, or equivalent cloud-native alternatives
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for database automation and infrastructure management
- Knowledge of database security: column-level encryption, row-level security (RLS), transparent data encryption (TDE), and audit frameworks
- Hands-on experience with database backup and recovery strategies, including BACPAC and bulk export/import operations
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex database performance issues and implement optimization strategies
- Travel requirement: All roles require travel during the first 6 months of employment to attend the BHG Oars in Experience. After the initial 6 months, ongoing travel is expected at approximately ~5% annually for periodic team on-sites, team meetings, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Work Authorization: This role is not eligible for employer-provided immigration sponsorship. To be considered, applicants must already possess valid U.S. work authorization that will not require sponsorship now or in the future.
- Experience with other cloud database platforms: Azure Databricks
- Proficiency with database monitoring tools: Redgate, Fog light, Azure Monitor, or similar platforms
- Experience with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) or similar ETL tools
- Knowledge of financial services compliance requirements (SOX, PCI, GDPR)
- Certifications: Microsoft Certified Data Administrator (AZ-104), Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), or MongoDB Certified DBA
