The Database Administrator II manages database installations, configurations, supports ETL processes, performs optimization, and resolves performance issues, ensuring secure and efficient data access.
The Database Administrator II is responsible for supporting the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems in alignment with established standards and best practices. This role helps ensure database environments are secure, high-performing, and reliable by performing routine maintenance, monitoring system health, optimizing SQL queries, and resolving performance issues. The engineer will also collaborate with cross-functional teams on a variety of projects, contributing to the design, implementation, and improvement of database operations to support consistent and efficient data access across the organization.
This role reports to the Director of IT Operations.

Salary Range
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $87,000 - $111,000 (flexibility based on experience) plus benefits as described below. In addition, the successful candidate will be eligible to receive other compensation from time to time in the form of discretionary and/or nondiscretionary bonuses and long-term incentive plan. Actual compensation will be influenced by a candidate's qualifications, internal employee equity considerations, and location. We will not ask for information about a candidate's current or past compensation for purposes of developing an offer of employment.
US team members (and their spouses, domestic partners, and/or dependent children) are covered by generously subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance which includes company contributions to a Health Savings Accounts. Team members are also covered by company-paid life and disability insurance and have the option of participating in employee-paid supplemental life, accidental death and dismemberment, critical illness, and accident insurance. In addition, team members can enroll in the company's 401(k) plan with up to a 5% match. You receive 15 days of paid vacation yearly, increasing to 20 days after one year. Additionally, you get 5 days of paid sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and 20 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents, 12 weeks for others. Also, there's an opportunity for tuition reimbursement for qualifying expenses.

This role reports to the Director of IT Operations.
What You'll Do
- Manage and optimize Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Aurora MySQL, and RDS PostgreSQL environments, including Global Database clusters across multiple AWS regions
- Configure and maintain RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL parameter groups, replication settings, and failover configurations
- Implement and monitor data encryption strategies using AWS KMS-managed keys.
- Design and manage PostgreSQL replication strategies, including logical and physical replication in AWS
- Optimize SQL queries and analyze query performance using native PostgreSQL tools, AWS Performance Insights, and other observability platforms
- Design, implement, and maintain ETL processes for data ingestion and transformation across multiple platforms
- Manage datasets and perform administrative tasks in GCP BigQuery, including data import/export, partitioning, and access control
- Develop, maintain, and improve backup and restore procedures for RDS and Aurora clusters using automated snapshots, PITR, and manual strategies
- Automate database provisioning, schema migrations, and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform
- Support development and DevOps teams with database-related needs throughout the software lifecycle
- Respond to production incidents and actively resolve database-related issues across registry and registrar environments
- Participate in On Call rotation to provide 24/7 database support.

Who You Are / What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL and/or MySQL databases in large-scale production environments, with at least 3+ years on AWS RDS and Aurora
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
- Proven hands-on experience with:
- Amazon RDS & Aurora PostgreSQL and MySQL
- Aurora Global Database configuration and cross-region replication
- PostgreSQL replication (streaming, logical)
- AWS KMS-based data encryption
- SQL performance tuning and query analysis
- Backup and recovery strategies on AWS (PITR, snapshots, etc.)
- Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, Terraform, Ansible)
- Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals, SQL, and PL/pgSQL development
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and system-level performance metrics
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex distributed database issues
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to work across time zones as part of a global organization as needed
- Reliable transportation to the workplace
