Job Title: Database Architect
Reports to: Director of Engineering 

Location: Remote

About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Database Architect to lead the design, optimization, and governance of our data systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring our real-time, high-scale systems are robust, efficient, and aligned with best practices for security and compliance. As a key technical leader, you will partner across engineering teams to drive a data-first culture and scalable architecture strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Schema Design: Lead relational database architecture with advanced schema modeling and normalization, primarily in Amazon Aurora.
  • Query & Performance Optimization: Develop and implement strategies for indexing, partitioning, and query tuning to support high-performance, high-availability, real-time systems.
  • Disaster Recovery & Replication: Design comprehensive backup, disaster recovery, and replication strategies leveraging AWS native tools to ensure business continuity.
  • Data Governance & Security: Establish and enforce data governance policies, compliance protocols, and security best practices across environments.
  • Data Evangelism & Architecture Leadership: Advocate for data-first thinking, promoting best-in-class data modeling strategies and architectural standards within engineering and cross-functional teams.


Essential Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in database architecture, design, and administration.
  • Proven expertise in relational database design with deep knowledge of Aurora or equivalent AWS RDS platforms.
  • Hands-on experience optimizing performance for large-scale, real-time applications.
  • Strong background in disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and multi-region replication on AWS.
  • Familiarity with data compliance standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) and security frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence engineering teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with hybrid database models (e.g., SQL + NoSQL architectures).
  • Exposure to analytics platforms and BI tooling integrations.
  • Leadership in cross-functional data architecture initiatives.
  • Production experience with PostgreSQL.
