About the Role:

Synergy Business Innovation & Solutions, Inc. is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support the delivery, deployment, security, and operational sustainment of a mission-critical enterprise application environment. The DevOps Engineer will design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve automated software delivery pipelines, infrastructure configuration processes, platform monitoring, and operational tooling.

The successful candidate will work closely with application developers, system administrators, cybersecurity personnel, database administrators, quality assurance specialists, and customer stakeholders to enable reliable and secure application releases. This position requires hands-on expertise with CI/CD pipeline development, source-code management, automated testing, infrastructure automation, containerization, system monitoring, and secure software delivery practices.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who can balance speed, quality, security, and operational stability while supporting Java-based enterprise applications and associated platform services in a controlled environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for enterprise applications, services, integrations, and platform components.
  • Automate build, test, security scanning, packaging, deployment, rollback, and release-validation activities across development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop and maintain pipeline-as-code using approved automation and orchestration tools.
  • Integrate automated unit, integration, regression, performance, and security testing into the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain automated deployment procedures that promote consistency, traceability, repeatability, and rapid recovery.
  • Support release planning, deployment scheduling, production readiness reviews, and post-implementation validation activities.
  • Incorporate secure software development and DevSecOps practices throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Integrate and maintain automated security tools for static application security testing (SAST), dynamic application security testing (DAST), software composition analysis (SCA), secrets detection, vulnerability scanning, and container-image scanning.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities, manage security findings, implement approved security controls, and maintain evidence required for continuous monitoring and audit activities.
  • Implement secure credential-management practices, including the controlled use of service accounts, secrets vaults, certificates, encryption keys, and environment-specific configuration.
  • Support security configuration compliance, patching, system-hardening activities, and applicable government security requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field; additional relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, software engineering, systems administration, cloud engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for enterprise applications.
  • Experience with source-code management and branching strategies using Git and a repository platform such as GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or Azure Repos.
  • Experience with CI/CD and release automation tools, such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Bamboo, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience with scripting and automation languages, including Bash, Python, PowerShell, Groovy, or comparable languages.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration-management tools, such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications, including build tools such as Maven or Gradle and application-server or middleware deployment processes.
  • Experience implementing or supporting automated code quality and security scanning tools, including SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning, and vulnerability management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with container technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging technologies, such as Splunk, ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or equivalent tools.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies, IT service management practices, change management, incident management, and release management.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable government background investigation, suitability, and security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting DevSecOps delivery in a federal, public-sector, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting on-premises enterprise application platforms, including Appian or comparable low-code/workflow platforms.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
