About Kernel

Kernel provides crazy fast, open source infrastructure for AI agents to use the internet. Our API allows developers to instantly spin up secure browsers and automate anything on the web. We handle all the hard problems of running browser-based agents in production: agents x user credentials, autoscaling, bot detection, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
We’re used by teams at Cash App, Vercel, Framer, Rye, and over 5000 developers for tasks like QA automation, RPA, virtual assistants, and CUA RL environments. We've raised $22M from Accel, YCombinator, Vercel, Paul Graham, Solomon Hykes (Docker), David Cramer (Sentry), Charlie Marsh (Astral), and more.

About the role

As a DevRel Engineer at Kernel, you’ll be part builder, part solutions engineer, and fully embedded in the developer community. This is a hands-on engineering role: you’ll spend ~50% of your time coding tools, demos, and SDKs and the rest helping developers succeed.

We are an infrastructure company and developers are our core users. As a DevRel Engineer, you'll be the public voice of Kernel for developers: creating content, engaging with the community, and bringing insights back to our product and engineering teams. You'll help define how builders learn about browser infrastructure, adopt Kernel, and push the frontier of what AI agents can do on the live Web.

What you’ll do

  • Build OSS tools, libraries, and integrations that make Kernel’s developer experience more powerful and easier to use

  • Create high-quality tutorials, guides, and demos showcasing Kernel's core and emerging capabilities

  • Iterate on Kernel's developer documentation as a first-class product surface

  • Engage with our community on GitHub/Slack/Discord/Twitter and in-person events, answering questions and amplifying cool projects

  • Contribute to Kernel’s technical blog, developing content that educates, inspires, and grows developer adoption

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on familiarity with generative AI, especially agents, MCP, and Kernel

  • Strong technical foundation in software engineering or applied AI. You're comfortable building code samples, demos, and lightweight apps

  • Developer empathy: you know what excites them, what annoys them, and how to speak their language (our inspirations: Modal, Supabase, PlanetScale)

  • Skilled communication abilities with a clear, engaging style across writing, video, and live presentations

  • Curiosity, high-agency, and a genuine passion to build something that delights software engineers

What you can expect as a Kernel

  • Industry-competitive salary and equity

  • Premium medical + dental coverage + dependent coverage

  • Small, high-trust team of senior + staff engineers

  • Default async with minimal bureaucracy

  • $1k / mo budget for LLM usage fees #vibecheck

  • Daily lunches on us

  • Unlimited PTO

  • 401k + company match

  • Relocation assistance

Hiring process

We have a simple process focused on real world collaboration and jointly getting to know each other:

  1. 30 minute intro call with one of Kernel’s co-founders

  2. 45-minute technical interview (virtual)

  3. Half-day on-site (virtual or in-person) working with our team on relevant challenges.

  4. Offer!

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
