Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do - but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
The Role:
  • Partners with business and IT stakeholders to design and deliver technology solutions that enable measurable procurement outcomes. This role requires exceptional business analysis skills, deep understanding of direct procurement business processes, and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language.

What You Will Do:
  • Serve as a trusted solution partner to Direct Procurement stakeholders by deeply understanding business processes, challenges, and desired outcomes.
  • Lead business analysis activities including process mapping, requirement definition, gap analysis, and impact assessment.
  • Pull together data from multiple sources to make insights visible, support fact-based discussions, and solidify business and solution requirements.
  • Utilize tools such as Power BI and Snowflake to explore data, validate assumptions, and support solution design decisions.
  • Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical solution designs and explain technical solutions, risks, and tradeoffs in business terms.
  • Apply creativity and GenAI technologies to accelerate problem solving, improve analysis, prototype ideas, and explore solution options.
  • Shape and recommend end-to-end solution approaches, including options, impacts, risks, and business cases.
  • Lead solution design, testing, and implementation in collaboration with architects, developers, vendors, and senior IT leadership.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, integrated, secure, and compliant with enterprise standards and delivery processes.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive stakeholders.
  • Drive solutions that deliver measurable business value, efficiency, risk reduction, and operational improvement.

Core Skill Required:
  • Core Application Systems: Knowledge of major production application systems used for delivery of services to internal and external clients; ability to leverage major production application systems in diverse situations.
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Application Delivery Process: Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, and formal application delivery methodologies; ability to utilize these in order to deliver new or enhanced applications.
  • Architecture Modeling: Knowledge of Architecture Modeling; ability to develop and modify enterprise architecture through conceptual, logical and physical approaches.
  • Information Security Technologies: Knowledge of technologies and technology-based solutions dealing with information security issues; ability to protect information security across the organization using encryption technologies and appropriate security software.
  • System and Technology Integration: Knowledge of the features and facilities of systems; ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms.

Top Candidates Will Have:
  • Strong application and delivery leadership capability, with experience supporting end-to-end solution planning and hands-on implementation-working closely with delivery teams to ensure solutions are well-sequenced, risks are managed, and outcomes are successfully realized in production.
  • Proven experience leveraging GenAI and modern digital tools, accelerating insight generation, sharpening requirements, and improving the speed and quality of solution delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder alignment and facilitation skills, with the ability to quickly drive consensus around clear, data-backed business requirements across both business and IT teams.
  • Hands-on data and analytics capability, with proven experience using Power BI to develop, integrate, and interpret data from multiple sources-translating insights into clear narratives that support critical business decisions.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical capability, consistently identifying root causes of complex direct procurement challenges rather than relying on surface-level system fixes.
  • Data-driven decision-making expertise, leveraging analytics and insights to shape solution options, assess trade-offs, and guide sound business and technology decisions.
  • Proven experience leading supplier-facing technology solutions, including the design and delivery of tools that support supplier collaboration, onboarding, performance management, and compliance-while balancing usability, risk, and enterprise standards.
  • Deep understanding of how technology enables procurement outcomes, including cost savings, operational efficiency, compliance, and supply chain resilience.

  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
