Spreetail is looking for a Director, Business Development to help drive our next phase of growth by building and expanding high-value partnerships across China and the U.S. This role is ideal for a native Mandarin speaker with a strong understanding of the Chinese eCommerce landscape and the ability to build relationships and close business across both international and domestic markets. You’ll lead cross-border business development in China, identifying and securing strategic brands and partners, while simultaneously driving domestic U.S. business development with high-potential brands. You’ll work directly with senior executives, develop new business opportunities, negotiate strategic partnerships, and represent Spreetail at key industry events—all with a direct impact on our vendor pipeline, revenue, and $50M+ GMV growth opportunities.
How will you achieve success:
- Build a $50M+ GMV book of business as the senior leader on the team — this isn't a supporting role; you carry a pipeline and a number.
- Independently build your ICP and source your own targets — no reliance on inbound or handoffs; you identify the right brands and the right contacts, and you drive the relationship from day one.
- Run your pipeline with the same rigor a leader would expect from a team — disciplined CRM and KPI management to prioritize the vendors most likely to close, reflecting the standard you'd set if you were managing others.
- Shape pitch strategy at a senior level — tailoring approach across SMB and Enterprise, category by category, with the judgment of someone who's operated close to the top of a BD org.
- Report your GMV and close performance directly to senior leadership — your results carry real visibility into the business, functioning as a benchmark for what strong individual performance looks like at Spreetail.
What experiences will help you in this role:
- Proven ability to close cross-border partnerships with Chinese manufacturers entering the US market — backed by fluency in Mandarin and English, with the negotiation instincts to navigate both language and cultural dynamics solo.
- A track record of personally closing $50M+ GMV deals — 8+ years of hands-on ownership from first outreach through signature, operating at a strategic deal size that reflects this role's seniority.
- Deep knowledge of ecommerce fulfillment and marketplace operations — able to speak credibly to how a brand's products move from vendor onboarding through Amazon, Walmart, or Target fulfillment, so you can sell the full value of the partnership, not just the deal terms.
- Trade show sourcing and P&L/costing negotiation experience — comfortable prospecting in person and managing the financial mechanics of a deal, from program terms to margin trade-offs.
- C-suite and owner-level selling experience — comfortable pitching and closing directly with founders, National VPs of Sales, and SMB owners, adjusting your approach deal by deal.
